What do think of a parachute like this for a 12 lb high powered rocket? It has only four large shroud lines. I thought it was a very reasonable price for the size. Their website shows I need a around a 96” parachute for a rocket that weighs twelve lbs. That seems a little large to me. Maybe these parachutes don’t slow the rocket down as much as an octagon chute does with mores shroud lines? Also, Is this parachute going to hold up to the job or does a person need to buy a higher quality one? Is a cheaper parachute not the place to save in a large rocket? I know you can spend much more on a Fruity Chute.

AFAIK those are good parachutes. If they rate it for 15 ft/s for a 12 lb rocket I would trust their numbers.

+1 on Rocketman chutes being great, and Buddy is very responsive and helpful if you need to learn more about his chutes.
If you go to his web site, the menu of different chutes and supplies is extensive and well documented:

Hello Steven, the CD on our chutes are .97 compared to .70 of a flat chute, now that is the real Cd as we measure our chutes over the canopy and are a bit smaller than 8ft when measuring across. Our 8ft Standard will land you at 15fps which is perfect. Our Parabolic design is only 4 lines, making it really easy to pack, and nearly impossible to tangle compared to a 20 line chute. They are reinforced over every single seam with any seam having no less than 8 threads ever, compared to 2 threads on a seam like a Iris. Our Parabolic chutes are the best for high opening speeds, and no swivels are needed as they are very stable, and do not oscillate tangling your lines up. We have 24 different designs of chute on our website to fit just about every rocket no matter of its Ultra Light Chutes to our Ballistic Mach 11 Chutes.

How does have a drogue chute fit into figuring out what size of regular parachute that you need? Is a drogue chute usually small enough it doesn’t count?

As any chute builder will tell you the decent rates are just a guide to help us pick a chute size. There are many things that come in effect when a rocket is descending. For the most part 15fps is slow. I myself would not go that big for a 12lb rocket. A 70" would be fine.
