I thought a rather important point of our hobby is that the rockets are not supposed to be "disposable"

LOL, having flown mine several times with a F12 including a 3 x Dude drag race, I think that "might" be a stretch... it's heavier than it looks. :)
Dude drag race! Epic.

Gotta appreciate whatever they were smoking when they conceived and then actually decided to produce that rocket. I would love to hear the story about how it came about.

I would love someone to make a re-shoe of tougher stuff.

Same, otherwise they are fireworks. Not that I have a problem with that either, just different use, different precautions.

No, these have recovery systems for a safe recovery. I just don't look for them. I did find the first of the 2 O powered ones, no ejection of the second and I wasn't going to search 600 square miles for a 4" hole.

Yes, unless you’re littering your own property, we must always make a sincere effort to recover our rockets. Launching and littering is a good way to lose a launch site.
at my club (Mid South Rocket Society) one of our flyers lost a small (maybe 4 foot long) high power rocket in the soybeans. He was quite concerned that it might structurally damage the harvesting equipment.

I launch a number of low power motor eject rockets (up to D casings). I try to recover the motors if I can find them, I don’t sweat it too much if I can’t find them, my understanding is that they are 100% biodegradable, and have no sharp edges. I am in a park, so I don’t think I need to worry about livestock eating them.

I may start putting streamers on if I use QuestJets, since those are plastic.

This thread interested me as i also have no certs but like flying high. Next step up from Estes kits.
The Apogee Aspire I looks up the stats and prices.
Looks like this is a list of what you need to fly it high and have a chance to recover it.
Apogee Aspire rocket $22.42
Apogee EBay $15.08
18" nylon chute $7.49
Easy mini alt. $92.31
LiPo battery $6.81
LiPo battery $9.82
Ematch mate bukhead adapt $20.52
Motor $53.00
So if I have all the component I think are needed for about $225.00-$230.00 would get you pretty high.
Anything I missed?

Define high? It's light enough to bring down nose-break plus streamer, so a borrowed tracker might get the job done with a single-use motor.

My point is this looks like a way to dip your toes in the next level from Estes builds especially when you have become good enough builder to build most everything they produce.
Learn new skills like using dual deployment, altimeters. Powder charges.
Just seems like the logical next step.
But y’all are the experts here
