One thing he is missing. Most people that have trucks... never use them as a truck in regard to towing or hauling things. That's why they don't buy the big V-8.

He speaks from over 50 years of automobile mechanic experience and from actually seeing the far too common with some makes and models problems he brings up. He has no axes to grind and still works as a repairman only because he wants to, not because he has to. If there is ONE automobile reliability expert to listen to it would be him.

Yep, he is quite animated while talking.

He didn't "miss it." He specifically put that comment in the context of needing to carry or tow heavy loads.

That's pretty much me with my 2.7L Ecoboost. Most days I take the boys to school & grandma, then go to work & back.

Rarely I pull the tractor + implements around on the trailer, other weekends I load 500-1000 lbs of concrete or wood in the bed. Last night it was qty. 90 * #3 (3/8") x 4ft rebar.

I just can't see my way to purchasing, maintaining, and insuring a third vehicle so instead I drive a mostly empty ~21mpg truck to/from work at ~$2-3/ga.

Do you know him? Has he worked on your vehicles or anybody's vehicle of people you know? Longevity in a career means very little. I worked with a lot of Mech. Engineers that were Engineers for 50 years.... that should have done something different. They couldn't change a flat tire on their own car.

Yep never confuse experience with knowledge or wisdom. Just because you've done something for 50 years doesn't mean you've done it right or well. 50 years of experience helps very little when talking about a truck or technology that has only been around 2 or 3. LOTS has changed in 50 years. I could tear down the engine and pretty much everything on my 99 GMC but won't hardly even root around under the hood of my '13 Xterra. It's funny he works at a mechanic shop that works on all makes and models of vehicles that are still under warranty and, I would think, should be at the dealer that sold it to them.

Like I said I didn't watch it, couldn't sit through it. Initially I was joking about his Lennon looks and glasses and the way he did his hands, and never commented on his knowledge or experience. I do find it hard to believe he has been at it that long though.
