I've been looking here on TRF trying to figure out what is a safe speed for main deploy after drogue or the JLCR (which I have).
On my OR files with a 12" drogue, it shows it coming down with a speed rate
somewhere between 50 and 60 MPH. I would think that with JLCR it would be coming down quicker without an opened drogue chute.
Is that a safe speed for a 6ish pound rocket (minus the burnt propellant weight) to deploy the main?
My OR file gives me warnings about deploy speed and I'm still debating on beginning my first DD
configuration using a drogue.
The rocket is the 4" Madcow AGM 33 Pike.
Is 60ish MPR safe for main deploy????

Obviously it depends on the strength of the main parachute, bridle and attachment point, but a well-built rocket should have no problems with a drogue descent speed of 60mph (88fps). I recommend using plenty of bridle and Z-folding the excess as a way to dissipate some of the energy as well as keep things neat.

You will be fine. Don't mind that warning from Open Rocket.

All my rockets in that size rocket fall drogueless around 50 to 80 fps. Main opens just fine. I don't over build either. I use cheap chutes, thin diameter kevlar, no quick links, bent wire eye bolts from Home Depot.

Hey Thanks!!!
I was just wondering because of the OR error, I feel better now!

John,
I've watched many of your videos and as always, lots of great tips and techniques from your experience!!
You're way above where I'm at and I must say THANKS for sharing, I know you've helped me and so many others!
I don't have a bridal but z-folding and taping the chute cord is definitely on the must-do list.

Buckeye,
I can relate to "the budget", that's where I'm at! LOL
Glad to hear your reassurance, I have to say I have a lot less worry now!!!
Thank You Sir!!!

I also had a "why didn't I think of that sooner" moment today concerning zipper "dissuasion", I'll post that in my build thread when I get er done,
I'll have to order some parts first, but I think it'll work (help)...

Thanks Again Gentlemen!!!!
