Full lyrics in my profile. Hey Marten, you gotta get rid of "only just" in the fourth line.

Oh man, that's great! If your day job or selling rocket kits (second career?) doesn't work out, you've got a shot at writing lyrics.

I fixed it, I was thinking of limerick syllables, but that's not this.

Ah! Little to none (outside of my head). I've got a plan for recovery, but many other things have bumped this to the side temporarily. I don't like to abandon build threads, or delay so long without updates. The next steps will be:
  • Find a suitable pilot (this is important)
  • Attach the canopy (must be secure)
  • Paint (need to firm up color scheme)
  • Parachute cannon (or fly single deploy)
And that's mostly it. I'd like to try have it ready by Red Glare, but I'm not sure if I'll have enough rocket time between then and now. My one year old has been teething and not sleeping well as a result, our company just moved locations, and I had been prioritizing some kind of winter exercise program to get me through January and February. I hope that the next few weeks settle down somewhat.

My son was super excited about building another LPR kit, so we put together an Apogee Darkbird. It fits the theme of this rocket, at least. More jets! Hmmm... maybe I should call this rocket "Lightbird".

Loved the DarkBird so much I did a heavily modified upscale

Go light on paint, resist the temptation to maiden fly it in any wind over 5 mph.
Make sure the pod slides easily, this is a tight bird to pack between the BT-5 and BT-20.

Ah nuts, I'm stuck. My hopes of wrapping up this thread with a launch report by April's Red Glare are gone like Blackjack smoke in the wind. The cancellation of Red Glare is beyond my (our) control, but I'm stuck on a good paint scheme, so I'm hoping to pester you all for some ideas. I'd like to do something relatively colorful, with at least 3 primary colors, but too complex or intricate. I'm posting some photos and the Rocksim file, let me know if you have any thoughts!

Wow! That’s just gorgeous, send that to the Smithsonian!

Came out great. I haven't the slightest idea what to do for a colorful paint scheme, but I'll chime in if anything comes to mind. Are printed decals in the mix?

Yes, I'd probably use StickerShock23, I also have various colors of striping tape available. I'd be interested in any ideas!

That is just stupifyingly cool... To say awesome job is to understate it by a factor of three.

I think it's calling out for a 60's era Gerry Anderson Thunderbirds type pain job. It looks like it flew right out of that show! Semi-bright colors, maybe a light metallic something with contrasting stripes, a few panel lines, maybe a touch of weathering...

Thanks Mike! I really do like your weathering effects, wish I could it off as well. I'm considering getting an airbrush and learning how to use it. Looks like it would be fun.

Off the top of my head, so take this for what (little) it's worth.

Start with either the white you've got or a dull metallic (i.e. aluminum not silver) base color. Add tasteful, understated stripes of medium blue and white or aluminum, whichever isn't the base (obviously). Keep it tasteful and dignified to the point of being just a little bit dull; think Air Force 1. And then add flame jobs on the nose and all the leading edges. This is probably the place to use printed decals, for realistic, muticolor flames (not those 60's "stylized" flame jobs).

At first I chuckled and thought this was a joke (it is pretty funny as written)... but it could be pretty cool. Dunno if Marten was going for that sort of thing, but I like the idea in general.

Yeah, I've been mulling it over, and it's growing on me. I'd need to sit down and try drawing it out, or mocking it up somehow. I like the idea of the understated stripes as a starting point. I do have blue and silver striping.....

I currently don't have much of a thing that I'm going for, other than finishing the rocket. I like all aspects of scratch building (even sanding, maybe especially sanding), but I have the hardest time coming up with paint schemes.

I know what you mean. This is how my Lockheed Defender build has been sitting for many months...

That looks pretty awesome as is! I bet some white lettering, or a white stripe or two, would help give it some accents. That's a pretty slick design, it doesn't need much.

I usually try using yahoo image search for inspiration. For me, it's more about design elements then a whole scheme.

Give this search a look see (Link -->> Colorful military aircraft paint scheme <<-- Link)

Thanks, that's helpful. Some of the artwork on those is absolutely stunning, and way beyond my skills. But I do see some design elements that I could incorporate into this rocket.

Wow, there are some whoppers there. How do they do those paint jobs exactly? On cars paint jobs like that would typically be vinyl wraps...

I figured for Lockheed you were heading down a “Blue Angels” theme with gold highlights, once you started with the blue.

For the Celestial Jet, OTOH, I was thinking of something either Thunderbirds or Snarky for a paint scheme.
