Good start; I like it. If you want to keep it simple: too late. If you want to keep it simplish, I agree a good paint scheme could be all it needs. I've got no suggestions on that score; a good paint scheme is always the hardest part for me.

Just one thing: the nose cone could be longer.

Split Infinity.

I like this one. Split fins scream for a good fin jig and look awesome when done well. Not sure on the pods. They seem to need more sleekness to match the fins.

Edit: how about a set of fins in between for six fin sets total. The middle fin would be smaller and complete the chord of the other two. Then possibly lengthen the middle set on the primaries.

Longer (!) nose cone, smaller diameter pods, extra fins between the mains. The new fins do not complete the cord of the other two because I tried and it didn't look good. The leading and trailing edges *do* match the sweep of the main fins though.

I'm not sure if the extra fins make the fin can just a bit too busy. Maybe I should just make them smaller.

Also, this is a rare design where I don't feel the need to do anything weird up front.

What would it look like if the nose of the pods, matched the nose cone?

From some angles, it looks like the extra fins may hide the gaps in the split fins. I think smaller would be better. Or what about very long, shallow strips (ala Arapahoe)? Although that may just do more to hide the gaps.

Not a fan of the extra inter-fin fins
I have fiddled with them further and I agree: too busy.

Weirdly, although it was totally not intended, I'm feeling like the pods give it a bit of a sci-fi look. Lots of paint scheme options here, none of which I feel like working on right now. :)

What about ditching the fins between the main fins and replacing with some long-ish engines sculpted to the main body? I do like the last design a lot, just brainstorming on "improvements". :)

I actually included parts for this one my BMS order, so it's officially in the build queue for the future. Simple but I like it. Which means that I will be fiddling with it. Name and paint-scheme-wise I'll be going for "abstract sci-fi", which means a generally sci-fi sort of impression without trying to make it "realistic". In other words, same philosophy as the Black Star Voyager, which to me is a paragon of abstract sci-fi design. Working name for the moment is "Deep Space Probe", I expect that to change.

First fiddles (paint scheme is completely temporary here):

Personally, I really like the lower model (with the rings around the pods, and without the intermediate fins). Very sharp! And I know you said it is a temporary paint scheme, but I like the super plain look with the red accented pods.
Sorry, but someone-who-shall-not-be-named has put the kibosh on that paint scheme. I will come up with something else. In the meantime, here it is without the red in an attempt to cleanse the palate (or palette):

I can't decide if I like the rings around the pods, although it's a design element I've wanted to incorporate at some point. Gonna let this marinate for a while.

I like the rings and pods. And the pods are more like the Starship Excalibur than the Trajector. The Trajector had those dopey looking bowling pin orange pods. I don't think I've ever seen pods inside a ring. You could make your mark here.;)

I never liked those Trajector pods, probably why I was drawn to the Accur8 NASA skin which dispensed with them.

Well, unique is good, but *good* is better. I haven't decided if they've earned their place yet. Just getting started with this one.

I'll be disappointed if you don't use the rings around the pods.

Like others, I'm not a fan of the intermediate fins as shown, but I might like very low strakes that stretch the full length of the three fin roots together. And when I say "very low", I mean like just 1/8" square sticks. You could bend them right down along the boat tail. They'd be nothing more than 3D pinstripes.

I do think that the pods should be brightly colored. If red is too much like some other rocket then make them orange, green, or whatever you want, just make them bright.

And I'm mostly with Marten on the plain paint scheme, but maybe not so completely plain. Maybe some lettering and/or a different solid color on the nose. That could be enough. Of course, that's the opinion of a lazy painter.

With the black and white paint scheme, it reminded me of Tilikum, the Killer Whale, so I was thinking “BlackFish”.
Really sad documentary on NetFlix, basically a captive killer whale that likely understandably went postal.

There’s something kind of evil or lurking about your model with the black white grey scheme.

I'll try to work them in. They are distinctive. Note, however, that they change this rocket from being "refreshingly easy to paint" into "god damn these stupid rings". ;)

I think if the rings stay, the intermediate fins go. It's too busy with both.

This is a cool name if I stay with a black-dominated paint scheme. That just might stick.

Hmm, hadn't even though of that direction, interesting to ponder. In that case this goes from being a deep space probe to some sort of missile or torpedo I think.

One idle thought...

Surprisingly, I am not digging the red. I like the white rings, ditch the strakes/supernumerary fins, and leave the long continuous black from nose tip to beginning of the fins. That’s what gives it the sinuous creature from the depths of Poseidon look.

Part of it is the best mix of simplicity and complexity. Keeping the nose and body simple sets off the fins and rings in the aft section.

Note that the grey fins were originally entered purely to make them more visible against the black airframe. I'm not crazy about them. As for the red, I think I'll experiment with leaving the colored tips (not necessarily red) on the pods but removing from the nose. That might be good. I'm a long way from settling down on this one.

This could be the rocket that I do a mostly flat black with black gloss decals. Someone else did one of those a little while back (can't remember who) and it looked great. Wouldn't want to go *all* black with the whole rocket though. Or maybe this is not the rocket for that. Dunno, need to experiment.
