Great source for very high quality baltic birch 1/8th" plywood in small 12"×30" sheets for cheap is Rockler Woodwork. They have a large selection of other products as well.

Had a good evening w/ HARA's last meeting of the year. Sorted out launch plans, nominations for club elections, etc.... and had a christmas rocket competition! (Prize was a Katana by Apogee from a generous club member)
Winning entry below came in a festive box, and had an accompanying poem that was quite clever. (Winner below, i have more pics of the other entrants as well)
And i had to grab another picture of the Pathfinder as i left. Its great to be able to hold our meetings at the Space and Rocket Center here in Huntsville.

Got three new Flight Sketch Mini altimeters into the air at Sixty Acres. Some sample data: https://flightsketch.com/flights/574/, https://flightsketch.com/flights/575/, https://flightsketch.com/flights/577/. That third flight involved a C6-0 made in October of 1973. The motor worked perfectly.
Ulexis, I bought the Mega nosecone & slotted body tube also. I wanted one after a guy brought one to a HP launch this past summer. I was bummed when I found out the kit was no longer made.
I went to the Estes website and found both but the NC wasn't in stock. Emailed their customer support & was told it was on back-order. So I waited & kept checking the site but nothing. Oneday I got an email saying they were now available so I immediately bought both.
What size enigine are you going to use? What material for the fins?

I really wanted to attend last night, but has been all too common lately, health issues got in the way!
Looking forward to meeting up in the future though!
Regarding my rocket-related activities, not much happening due to health, and exhaustion of financial funds on previous purchases. However, I did manage to track down some needed hardware items like quick links and swivels from Lowe's, paracord from Hobby Lobby, and thin CA plus a small 2S Li-Ion battery pack to power my MissleWorks RRC3 altimeter. Also placed another order to Chris's Rockets for other hardware and two G-motor reloads to supplement the two Econojets I already have for first launches.
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look and see if I can find on that matches the spec.
I purchased a set of fins and centering rings from erockets today. Thanks to Kuririn's post. So I will build it pretty much stock with a 29mm motor mount. I'm not sure it will be red after looking at the stickershock site!

Received all the parts needed to put together an experimental weather satellite. The plan is to drop a soda can sized satellite from the rocket at apogee, and the satellite will report back real time data on: temperature, humidity, wind speed, wind direction, altitude, descent speed, and GPS location.

Otherwise, it's off season for me, so all I'm really doing is reading the forum, reading books and watching videos. Rocket hibernation, at least as far as building and launching go.
Went to the AARG launch in Hutto Texas. Huge turnout and about as perfect a day as you have ever seen in your life.
I went easy for the last launch of the year; no electronics, nothing bigger than a G motor. Just hang out with everybody, have fun, help if I could, load and launch. I got in four flights with four different rockets, three of which were over 20 years old!
My 21 year-old Vaughn Brothers Javelin went off on an Aerotech G74-9W to about 1400ft. or so. A slight rod whip made it my longest walk of the day, about 100 yards.
My Nike-ized Estes Majestic went on an F67, dead straight and landed close. Anther 20 year old, Nike Ajax-looking LP bird went on a B6-4 and landed about 10 feet from where I was standing. Too cool...
The last was my old extended T.H.O.Y. Wasp on a G64 reload. The boost was perfect, dead straight and vertical, but I think the delay my have been a tad short (was supposed to be 7 sec.) and the payload tube snapped back on the old elastic shock cord and knocked off a fin. Other than the missing fin the only damage was to the paint on the payload tube. It would be a very easy repair, but I've decided to retire it to a place of honor on the wall of the rocket room (Probably clone it, though). 20 years is enough to ask of anybody!

My Madcow Aerobee-Hi came in today!!!
After much anticipation anxiety, it finally arrived!!!!
My first Madcow rocket!
Well.....Good thing it showed up on a Saturday, when I was off....
I had to stop the USPS driver to tell her I had a package, she was flying by and said "nothing for you today"....
She backed up and obviously frustrated that she had to stop, forcefully pulled my wedged package out of the back of her mail truck and gave me THIS....
Then she hurried off as if she was too bothered to have to stop....
Got it inside and opened it up and thankfully no damage!!!
Madcow's packaging was perfect!!!
The rocket was sealed in a plastic bag and the only damage was minor but it was caused by the fact that the fins were stacked on top of the bottom body tube and caused a little ding...totally insignificant to the build.
Here's the parts laid out..
Has a nice chute chord and all the parts fit well and the body tubes are nothing to complain about!!!
No excessive "rats in a gunny sack" texture....I've seen MUCH worse and the spiral seams.....no complaints!
One thing that I didn't catch is the fact that it didn't come with a motor retainer, but I was thinking of upgrading the motor tube to a longer 58mm MM and adding another centering ring, still figuring this one out!
Here's the dry mock-up....
Seems like a light simple rocket, well made, well packaged, much potential!!

(Pre-finished, no wood filling or painting. My kind of rocket):
and finally put on a coat of paint on the Boyce MA and called it a night:
Decals and gluing on fins in a couple of days.
Tally ho, pip pip.

Flew 8 rockets yesterday Six of which used A8-3 engines and 2 of which used C6-5 engines. Lost one rocket due to higher upper winds at approx 20mph lower ground level winds were around 10mph. Parachute deployed approx 2,500 ft and causes the rocket to catch high updrafts and lead to the rocket drifting much father than anticipated. The rocket was indeed built for duration but was lost

I received a NCR Laserhawk for my birthday, but I think that there was a packaging error. The kit came with a slotted BT for the fin can, but the 36" BT is also slotted.
Went to a local DARS low power model rocket launch. Lots of kids, lots of A motors. Windy day, so much so I lost my classic original Estes Fat Boy to the incredible local rocket eating tree.
Yeah, I took a look at the instructions and the parts list. Looks like the longer tube should not be slotted. Drop Matt Steele an email at Tech Support: [email protected]
I'm sure he'll get the correct part to you ASAP.
Flew three rockets today. A Rocketarium Retro Rebel, a Semroc Satellite Killer clone, and a Mach 1 Antigravity.
Antigravity was the best flight, AT E30-4 w/adapter, recovered with no damage.
The modified Satellite Killer clone flew on an E12-4. Chute did not unfurl completely and it received some landing damage. Easily repairable. Same thing with the Retro Rebel. Both rockets have a small recovery compartment, and I think that cramming in the chutes leads to problems with deployment. C'est la vie.
The antigravity is quite the robust machine. I punched one up on an F27R this summer.
Underchuted a little given the expected altitude... no damage at all. It is nicknamed "ice pick" ... you can probably guess why

Looks like a neat rocket, I noticed that in the product description they claim: "Note: Gravity is not affected in any appreciable amount by this rocket." Shucks.
Yeah, all fiberglass (except for the plastic nose cone) so as close to bulletproof as you can get (for the price).
