3D Printing Creality3d CR-10 v2 on the way - George's projects & links

So, I've been planning to get an CR-10S, as my first printer. But for Black Friday deals on the Creality website, the price of a version 2 (which came out in September) was as low as I was about to pay for the 10S, so I went for version 2.

A couple of things mentioned in the video below are misleading, it does not come with a BL Touch bed-level sensor, but that can be installed (I didn't order the sensor kit).Same for the imported Titan direct drive (non-standard equipped), I'll see how things go with various filaments and print quality & see if that might be useful later. It is sturdier and quieter, among other things. I had already been looking at aftermarket diagonal braces, which v2 now has.



I think part of what I'll do with this thread is to post links to stuff I find useful to learn with, not just whatever I print. Kind of like my own bookmarks, but having them in this thread for easier reference/review.


Here's a video I have not even watched yet. Chris Taylor's (Nerys) "Today's 3D Print" unboxing, assembly, and print, while livestreaming. It's over 6 hours long (no doubt extra-long due to livestream chat along the way).I figure it will be VERY useful when mine arrives and I mirror Chris' action to assemble it and get it going. Much the same as I was going to do with Chris' CR-10 unboxing and assembly video which helped me to decide on getting a CR-10.

I will tell you that auto-leveling is a great addition if you can install the BL touch.

Yeah, Chris Taylor's "Today's 3D Print" videos were very instrumental for me deciding on whether or not to get a 3D printer, and narrowing my focus on the CR-10 series (I could probably do with a smaller one, but I like the idea of having the capability to go big for some special projects. I do not expect to do 390 mm tall nose cones, but I could easily see doing some pretty big jigs for scale model assembly or whatever).

Here's a video by someone else video on setting up, calibrating, and printing the CR-10. Includes some tweaks that had to be done with the fit.

I'll see how it goes manually. Perhaps for version 2 they made it easier to add the BL Touch. A video I saw on installing BL Touch involved a bit more messing around with wiring inside the box than I felt I want to get into.
Hmm, OK, I dug around some more and found a video about adding BL Touch to version 2, the other I saw was not for version 2. This one shows the wiring being added pretty easily to the gantry, not opening up the control box as I saw before. So, this looks more do-able, like they did modify it to be easier to do that. Except for flashing the firmware, the link provided is for how to do it via Xloader, I'm using a Mac (https://github.com/3d-printing-canada/CR10V2-BLtouch-Installation). Update below this video.

OK, found my answer on the software for updating firmware, plus more, for adding a BL Touch to a V2.
This video by Creality shows the firmware being updated using their slicer software, as well as the physical install and set-up . Firmware update via their own slicer software:

You will probably be fine with manual leveling. Once you get it adjusted, you likely won't have to change it unless you change nozzles.

Well....Did it arrive yet?

Just make sure it's square/parallel and level when you assemble it and you'll be fine.For starters I'd run the Z all the way up to check for binding, leadsrcews/nuts they use aren't the best. I strongly recommend going over every bit of hardware too, they tend to just slap 'em together. Some LocTite wouldn't hurt either, I've had mine rattle more than a few things loose. During certain moves it'll actually shake the 200 pound solid oak table upon which it sits. You'll see once you get into it.
