Hello all ,

I have this idea of taking a cross country trip next summer (2020) hopefully taking in many of the premier rocketry events across this wonderful country. Some of the events I have thought of are :

Airfest
NARAM
LDRS
Balls
Arlis/AEROPAC

Are there others I should be considering?

Thanks in advance-

There are many clubs that hold a special major annual regional/local launches such as NYPOWER, URRF, Red Glare, to name a few in the northeast part of the country.
At a national level, I don't see NSL

I did something similar the summer before my career began...had a great time. One thing I actually really enjoyed was single day/smaller launches at some clubs. The atmosphere is pretty relaxed, you meet some great people when they're relaxed and having fun flying. Sometimes the people you really want to meet are quite busy if they're hosting large/regional launches.

On that trip I did attend an LDRS in Potter, which was pretty sweet too, so a mix of those would be wise.

Thank you dipstick and les. I understand what you are saying about the smaller launches being more relaxed.

Maybe what I need to do is contact all the individual clubs and find out what they have planned. Is this what you did dipstick? I will also post on the local events forum.

I was planning over a winter and ended up creating a dream list with the understanding I could head home from anywhere if I ran out of money. I combed a lot of club calendars to make a list, then added museums and stuff in my interest area...

My list looked kinda like this
-LDRS in New York
-NYC
-Washington DC Smithsonian Air and Space sites
-Virginia VAST launch
-Kennedy Space Center
-EAA Oshkosh
-UROC Salt Flats
-Kloudbusters Sat club launch
-Iowa for PGI convention

I lived out of my car with a tent and cooler for 6 weeks, drove 18 000km, and loved every minute. Then the real world started lol.

Hey dipstick

This is useful stuff, you have given me some ideas. 18,000 KM, wow.

I might be jumping the gun a little because I'm thinking that many of the clubs wont set up their calendars until after the first of the year.

Depending on how much carnage you like to see, you might try the IREC launch, late June, Spaceport America, don't know how close the general public can get to the flight line. College teams launching commercial and research solids plus research hybrids and liquids. About 1/3 of the flights are nominal from liftoff to landing.

For more normal launches, there are two notable ones out in the northwest. I haven't been, but Oregon Rocketry's NXRS launch has call-in waivers to 50K, also late June. The one I usually go to (Fire in the Sky, eastern WA, Memorial Day Weekend, 14K waiver) is uncertain due to losing the launch site. There will likely be a launch in eastern WA that weekend, just not sure where or what the waiver will be.

Thanks boat geek. I didnt know about the IREC launch and spaceport America would be an awesome stop!

NXRS in Oregon ~2 weeks before the 4th of July.
50k waiver, over 250 attending, over 400 flights (weather permitting)

Waiver will be 9K as usual for TriCities Rocketeers unless something unusual occurs, and May 16th is our launch for that month, there will not be a Memorial Day launch event at TCR. June Swoosh and SodBlaster are our only "big" events.

I have thought about a similar trek for the summer when I retire from the military.

OK, I am going to try to get this thread going again. Its Jan 1 and I have started a calendar of when launches are. I cant find dates yet for some of the national launches, I'm hoping that now that we are in 2020 I can get that info.
