Back in 2003 I retired it to the attic. Been sitting up there for 16 years thru hot and cold. Pulled out down checked it out, looks the same, joints feel tight, seems as good as ever. Considering flying it on a J500green motor to try and get my level 2 cert back.

I don't at present have a simulation program available but Thrust Curve says 2763' on the J270.
I also do not have an altimeter on board. It weighs with motor on the pad about 7 lbs. 4" diameter.
That will make for a great L2 cert flight. You should be able to see the whole flight. Good luck. Post some pictures.

My EZI is set up for dual deploy and has 3/16" thick fins. The 1/8" fins were prone to flutter and snapping off.

Did you have the stock fins fail at speed then replace or did you make a preventive move and change them before a failure?
I had one in 1989 and a J125 took the fins off. When I built the current one,I built it with the thicker fins.

I saw an EZI launched on an L something. I noticed that recovery took a very long time. It returned home good as new. I would have sworn that the fins would have had issues. Great job Tim! You know who you are.

a 100% bone stock EZI will easily take a J180, J90, or any similar CTI motor.

I did my first cer2 on an EZI "like" rocket back in the early 2000s on a J90 with no issues. popped the chute' at apogee (4500ish feet) and got her back in perfect condition

Has anyone flown an EZI65 on a J or more?
I would like to know too. I would like to use my EZ for my Level 2 cert. flight
I was thinking J270W or J3435WS or maybe a J425R
I just flew my EZ on November 16th at Plant City Florida with Tampa Tripoli
Stock EZI-65 with an 38mm motor adapter. Used an Aerotech I280DM set for 10 second delay.
Hit 3579 at apogee.
Delay blew at 3559 on the down side.
Jolly Logic chute release set for 500'
Awesome flight. Lots of oohs and ahhs at launch as the I280 is a sparky!

I'm planning on flying it on an Aerotech J270. 2.6 sec burn expected altitude is 2700'
On pad weight is 3152g or about 7lbs.

curious how you get to 7 pounds. Even with two layers of glass and a full electronics bat you will be hard pressed to get much over 5 pounds.

the rocket I spoke too earlier in this thread was dead on 51oz w/o the motor

I just re weighed it and came up with 2560g dry, add J270 @ 642g equals 3217grams equals 115 oz. equals 7.18 lbs. with motor.
It is set for DD and is extended to 70" with electronics and double coats of paint. I have an inexpensive ( cheap) electronic scale, perhaps it's way off.

I have Open Rocket on my laptop and thrust curve on my phone.

I will take a guess at Cd then after some test flights on the rocket adjust the Cd to match the altimeter data. I use a digital postal scale that goes up to 50lbs.

Wow, thanks very much. I JUST got a laptop with Windows operating system and haven't started it up yet. I got it specifically for Open Rocket. It will be a few days till I have time to set it up. Thanks again for your help.
John

I have an extended EZI like yours. It weighs in at 3254g (7.1lb) without a motor.
I ran a sim on it using the J270 and the J425. The 270 was fine and hit 2940 ft.
Good velocity off the rail, but the 425 was real solid off the rail and it went to
2820 ft. The 425 would be my choice.

Yes, my first choice was a RMS J420. However it was out of stock from my local vendor as well as the J350. So I decided on the DMS J270. I believe it will be a good motor for the rocket. It has a 2.6sec burn! Sounds like fun to me.

If all goes well I might go for the 425R. Love those red flames!
It's been 16 years since I used the DD altimeter in it and I can't remember anything about it so I'm gonna employ single motor deployment, 10sec delay, at the top and my JLCR to open the main.
