I would imagine this ship may have already sailed, but any chance of using slightly beefier tubing, like LOC 2.56" tubing?

In either event, awaiting details with great anticipation.

BT-80H from Balsa Machining Service, its dold in 34" lengths, they also have a selection of balsa nosecones to fit it.

Or possibly T80H tubing such as from Balsa Machining?

I get most of my stuff from Bill. As for the nose cones I turn those on the lathe myself so they can be as scale as possible. Thank you for your help.

North American specs say the nose was a 4:1 ogive. It looks pointier to me, but I have never measured it against the drawings. Maybe it looks longer because of the side tunnels.

Are you planning to kit this one too? If so, I'm in for sure!

As you know many of these three views can be off and I plan to do the corrections. This one will be based on the early versions as they were my favorite and yes I am going to kit it. Thanks Mugs.

This will be built the same way as the smaller version. Beta build starts this Monday. Will start with the lathe and make up the nose cone and boat tail. Plans are 1:1 I'm holding this will be a nice size.

My Delta is gorgeous. I would pre-buy this right now :-D.

Some pictures of hoe the canopy works and still retains a scale appearance and position on the fuselage.

I am currently working on his smaller X-15 rocket.
Some of the parts on his first orders were not cut/marked correctly.
A simple email to Steve and he fixed the problem pronto.
Do not be afraid to order from him. He is a stand up guy.
After I finish this build I think I will be getting this bigger one. And maybe the delta wing one also looks interesting.
I just love this era of rocket planes. Wish someone would offer the iconic X-1

Thank you so much Robert for the kind words. It's funny you should mention the X-1. I'm planning a whole series of X-planes as I love that whole era of planes. The problem is it will have to be an epoxy glass fuse. It will cost more to produce and take more time but I'm going to do it I swear.

Plastic. They work good I suppose if the builder wants to they can add there own metal retainers.

Glad to hear that more X planes in the works. Hope they will also be of the smaller size to make them more affordable

It's vacuformed. I have so many vacuform machines I thought it about time I took advantage of them.

Seems I didn't post this:

And some pictures of the canopy set up. You can see in through the windows so I'll make a little helmet wearing pilot head a shoulders for it.

Robert here is the problem. Especially with the X-1, X-1A, X-2 and Douglas Skyrocket. They have contoured bodies. Can't use body tubes. These have to be mastered in blue foam, epoxy glassed and detailed. Then I have to make epoxy glass 2 piece molds and lay them up by hand in epoxy glass. This costs.

I can make them smaller but they will still be in the 200 dollar range. It is hard for us to keep the X-15 Grande at a lower price because by the time all is said and done we don't get much profit out of it. The only way to do that is invest thousands on having them massed produced in some other country and that's just not an option for us. If I could I wouldn't want them made out of the country. There's been too much of that already.

I try to buy everything from US manufacturers if possible. Support my local hobby stores and cottage industry businesses and I know all of you here try the same. So it's hard to make a buck and compete against Hobby King and Amazon at the same time but we try.

Our kits are for people that appreciate the artisans we are in making kits that are unique and aimed at the seasoned modeler who knows how to work a hand made kit and turn it into sometime special.

I have considered vacuformed bodies and I'm still thinking about it. You would get to halves that would need to be connected together with laser cut bulkheads inside for support. The size would be limited to the largest vacuform machine I have which is about 12-14 inches. They would be cheaper to make but I'm not sure they would be to everyone's liking?

Nowhere near finished and I only did a couple of passes with primer and paint to seal the wood grain. Decals are for a Frank Burke Dynasoar X-15 Boost glider that Sticker Shock sells. I have a bunch more to put on. I will have a special set made for this model that Mark is working on now.

I added panel lines just basic ones nowhere near scale accurate. I used flat black primer first then added the tape and sprayed semi gloss over the tape. Once removed it let nice crisp panel lines and they pop because they are flat.

Despite being sport scale she is looking the part and is a nice size.

More tomorrow.
