He had specially machined 100 of these thrust plates for this project and anodized them to match the red nose cone and fins. These will be included with every single kit!

More parts are coming in, received the switch bands, the beautiful G-10 fins in red, a lot more nosecones, body tubes, couplers, centering rings, as bay stepped bulkheads and nose cone bulkheads. Check out the 4.5” long billet aluminum nosecones tips! I am almost positive the kits will release this Friday November 1st! Working on getting the Av Bay Packages figures out as well as the Recovery Packages.

We are excited to announce the release of our CSXT Space Shot 2004 Rocket Kits now for purchase on our website! These unique kits are 88.5” tall, 3.00” Diameter with a 54mm MMT and have an Aluminum Billet Thrust Plate. Our kits are an exact 1/3rd Scale version of the Civilian Space eXploration Team rocket that was the first rocket to ever reach space built by an all civilian team proving anyone can accomplish their dreams if you never give up. The rocket had reached 72 miles up and 3,420 mph on a S-50,150 solid fuel motor! Each kit is signed by Ky Michaelson, Bruce Lee and Jerry Larson on a Certificate of Authenticity and is limited to 100 kits only that will ever be made. I would’ve considered the kit if the decal was included but for another $65, it’s not worth it. Frankly a cardboard and wood kit would’ve saved a lot of money and weight while doing basically the same thing (same with the Miss Riley kit). I don’t get why everything has to be fiberglass these days.

When we used to produce the cardboard kits, we had constant problems with them breaking in the mail. My goal is to produce the highest quality and strongest kits out there meant to last a lifetime. The decals are a little expensive, but that’s what a full wrapped decal costs me, they were $120 to start but I spent the money and bought 50, which was for $65.00 a piece, I’m not making anything of the decals. These are top notch quality.

No they were Phenolic tubes, trust me a lot of vendors are having problems with tubes being broken, it seams to be a game played by USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL who can wreak the most boxes with “Fragile” decals on them. I love fiberglass as they do not require any paint, as they’re naturally colored. Also I do not want to be worried if I’m going to blow apart the rocket in pieces with too big of a charge, which I did in May as it was phenolic. Fiberglass is so simple to work with, if a cardboard rocket lands in a pond, it’s over, with fiberglass it will last a lifetime in a lake. I don’t want to be scared about zippering my rockets, or breaking a wood fin. Like I said everything I do from now on is going to be the best with the nicest materials as quality is very important to me.
 
Just wait till you have issues getting tubes from your supplier. It's happened in the past, it will happen again. Personally I'd love to see more phenolic coming out. The rocket scene is flush with plastic rockets these days and it would be nice to have a choice. Plastic is not the nicest material by a long shot.
 
I fly at the Lucerne Dry lakebed in Southern California, which can be almost as hard as asphalt. My cardboard and phenolic rockets are pretty battered as a result. They are a bit more expensive, but fiberglass is a lot more durable when flying off of hard surfaces IMHO.

Good for hard surfaces but that's about it. No difference for the rest of the country where the ground is softer other than fiberglass being about 10x pricier. Nothing wrong with a fiberglass rocket, just saying that not everything needs to be fiberglass.

10x the price? Try finding a 3” kit that’s 88” tall for $30 shipped, I doubt it. They both have their plus’s, every rocket I paint takes about $60-80 worth of paint, so with my kits they’ll never require any paint as the fiberglass is dyed.
 
If you don't want the kit, don't buy it. No reason to disparage a good kit.

Exactly. Disparaging someone for introducing a new kit of any kind will just prevent other kits from being introduced. There are lots of good cardboard kits, phenolic kits, Quantum Tube kit, and fiberglass. Or a person can always scratchbuild.

Not sure how you end up with $60-80 for painting a single rocket. Rattle can paint is like $5. Do it properly and you don’t need to waste on automotive paint.
 
It's a nice looking kit, and the price is about what I would expect.
My problem when I see the the kit in rocksim is that I want to start optimizing it for altitude (bit shorter, convert to min diameter, etc), and then it's no longer a 1:3 scale model of an iconic rocket :(. I'm better off building from scratch.
I'm still on the fence whether to get one and be hands-off on the modifications. Have way too many unfinished projects as it is. :)

the gentlemen that I fly with in Alabama would differ on fiberglass only being good for hard surfaces. The "other" good reason is that fiberglass doesn't get soggy when wet. Being in Seattle, I would suggest the same benefits are there for places that are soft but not dry... :)
 
At this time I only fly low power rockets.
But I so enjoy reading what y'all do with theses kits.
Buddy's kits look awesome.
He seems to be the kind of guy who loves what he does and loves the sport, wants to get as many folks into it as possible
And affords his help and guidance to those who seek it.
His prices indicate a man who is not out to make a huge profit and is concerned in keeping it as affordable as possible.
I do not understand people who disparage what other people are offering us.
If you don't appreciate the time, effort etc. it takes to put out one of these kits.
Do not buy it.
Kits like this really make me want to get into high power rocketry, which I think is Buddy's goal.
A kit where "everything" you need in one box is awesome.

Hello there, just boxing them all up now, actually was just getting ready to send an email out to the purchasers. We had gotten delayed slightly as the certificates took longer to sign than expected, and are on the way to me. As they had to go to Colorado to New Mexico and to me. I’ve had fiberglass kits fall a mile plus and yeah they didn’t break. Totally interesting piece of kit you made. I may have to pick one up.

I’m in the conveyor design business for Hytrol. You wouldn’t believe how many different kinds of boxes and packages these FedEx/UPS/Amazon types want to run at 600 feet a minute through like 12 diverts and spurs or turntables or chutes. They have control systems... Sometimes they want to store boxes right one after another to conserve conveyor space call it slug mode. Well it’s kinda like a train crash with customer boxes... We had to engineer parts of the conveyor to break off in cleats with shear pins because the box crashing effect is so violent. And I mean that’s so the conveyor doesn’t eat itself. Our cleats actually don’t break boxes. A competitor cleat has like a 2” thick ball bearing which launches and pierced boxes. So yeah there’s a whiny backstory on the fragile boxes being demolished... it gets worse with 33,000 pound pallets with uneven pallets.
