I’m headed up Thursday morning. I have a buddy joining from Houston that’s jumping in feet first hoping to get his L1 and first HP flight at LDRS.

I'll be flying a scratch built 3" a couple times on I's at the next launch testing out dual deployment. Will also be either flying the 3" or my 4" DX3 on a J for a level 2 certification attempt.

I have a 2-stage ready and will bring it but it won't fly this time. I need a better flight controller for safer constraints on sustainer ignition plus i'm not sure about Aerotech motors in the sustainer, i think the consensus is CTI because they ignite faster. I was thinking of launching the 2-stage but without the sustainer igniters connected, I could test the separation charge and see what it looks like but i'm not sure. I'll leave it up to RSO to decide.

I've got a bunch of things in the works for sure. Time and the kids schedules are conspiring against me though .

Chad' s two stages sounds awesome. Definitely on my to do list!

i'd love to get some opinions on the concept. Although, there's not much to it since the booster is just the bottom of my 4" dx3. The sustainer (what i'll be likely trying for level2 with) has some uniqueness to it and i'd love to get some opinions there though.

Feel free to share. I could also learn a thing or two about staging composites.

For Aerotech reloads the trick I used was to trap the heads of several Copperhead igniters at the front of the motor during assembly. (Thermalite is preferred but a lot harder to find.) Then after the ematch ignited those it wouldn't matter if it departed. But as it turned out the stages didn't separate (I should add a little BP) until the motor pressurized.

How'd the launch go?
it was a very pretty day.

my two stage wasn't ready in time and George wasnt convinced it was a good idea even if it was flight ready which is fine. I may fly it in a boosted dart config next time. Up to RSO.

I passed level 2 cert with my madcow super dx3 on a j250 that flew to 3700 feet. first attempt at dual deployment too which went fine but waiting on the main is nerve racking hah. there was a beautiful upscaled DX3 launched on a K but recovery failed to deploy :(

I also saw a low-power 2 stage fly which was really cool.

There was a big turnout, maybe the biggest i've seen. A lot of HPR too which was cool, although i missed a bunch of launches while walking out to recover mine. It was a little windy.

I finally got that two-stage ready and launched (without a motor in the sustainer), I'm waiting for some better electronics plus a light North wind before I try and ignite the sustainer. With the sustainer lit, it will definitely be pushing the altitude limits at the Gunter field.

Weather was nice on Saturday. What y'all fly?

I had a successful level 1 certification flight on my Binder Design Excel named Initiate flying on a H128. I also successfully flew a three motor cluster in my Maxi Force on E30's and a two motor cluster in my Impulse named Phoenix also with E30's.
In addition my grandson flew his Executioner on a F44, as well as a Comanche on a D12 first test flight.
Overall it was a great day of flying! Super fun! Hope to see you one day at a launch!
Looks like I will be buying larger and larger motors from you!
Thanks Bob for all you do for our hobby.

Nice. Scratch build?

Hey All,

I'm finishing up my first high power rocket build. Is there a launch in Gunter planned on the 18th?

If so, hoping to fly it on a G74 and then if time allows go for level 1 with an H128.

Yes, their is. Weather permitted it will be a great launch day. I'm sure you will do well. What you are planning mirrors what I did. I flew my Binder Designs Excel on a G76 to insure it flew well and successfully flew it on a H128 for my level one certification.
I know of several high power flights planned so it should be an exciting day. This is my level one bird.20191110_094433.jpeg

Awesome, yah I figured since this is a somewhat scratch build I'll test it before going full blast [emoji16]

I'm building the Calisto from Make: High power rockets. Looks like a PML Calisto but it's 2.6" and around 50" long
