What I did today -instead- of Rocketry.

I finally finished tiling our new shower earlier this week. Yesterday I met with the inspector, and today he verified that the construction of our home is 100% complete. There are still a lot of little things to do (paint, etc), but what a relief! This has been a stressful two-year saga. Maybe now I'll actually have time to build and fly more rockets.

Very nice. Congrats, and enjoy your new digs...it does have a workshop, right?

FDA rules prohibit me posting any links to news articles about it, but sufice it to say that I have had the most professionally fulfilling week I could have dreamed of.

If you know me well enough to work out the details (I think a few of you do), please don`t post them.

Of course there’s a rocket lab in the basement! Now that I’m done with the master bathroom, it needs some serious attention.

Remember, pictures when it is ready, or it doesn't exist.

Stayed home from work to get a 10.9kW 3-phase solar power system installed.
Color me green with jealousy...

I'd like to go solar, but...issues. A windmill(s) wouldn't be terribly difficult to build from scratch, but western KY apparently doesn't get enough wind to make it practical. SWMBO has vetoed roof-mounted photovoltaics. She thinks they're ugly and will make the house harder to sell in the future; I think they look neat, and IMHO a house that has minimal or no electric bills ought to appeal to a lot of buyers.

Cleaned up the toy hauler trailer we use for launches and noticed a broken link on the suspension. So yesterday I found a replacement part and installed all new links on that side.
We are really putting the miles on this trailer, with two local launches every month and our annual trip to Airfest in Kansas.

Appearance is, of course, a matter of taste. I think you're right about resale.

I painted the kitchen. Painting is hard work. Next comes laying tile - easier? I doubt it.

I have never worked with tile. I actually don't mind painting too much, assuming all the junk is out of the room ;)

something my dad taught me (unintentionally,of course)

one person's challenge is another person's frustration..

Of course, he saw it as "a challenge", I just saw it as frustrating, convoluted, something I just didn't get.. or really want to.. "If you find it challenging, go right ahead. I'm gonna give it to someone else.."

Did the second half of a 200k two day bicycle ride to raise money for cancer research. The ride raised a total of over $4.75 million this year.

Replaced a dead fridge evaporator fan motor with a new one that came in the mail today. Thought I would have to buy a new fridge but took a chance on this working. Freezer and fridge are now cold again. Saved about $630.
Hmmm, maybe I should buy more rockets?

Only today...?
Just trying to breathe......

The last 7 months......
Had to buy an A/C window unit
(we don't have central, just 3 small window units and a fireplace and a couple of 1500 watt heaters)
and rewire that for 240 volt,....
Had to reframe 15% of my house wall (exterior) because the old window unit was leaking and rotted the studs and base plate,...
A $650.00 "replace window unit" turned into $1300.00 of rocket time/money gone...

Had to replace the front end of one of my vehicles, had to inspect/register the other vehicle, another $450.00 of rocket time/money gone...

And "winter is coming".....
Just bought a forced air heater, and the appropriate wire and breaker..... another $235.00 of rocket time and money gone...

THANK GOD I can do all the work myself,...
I can totally imagine what the labor would have cost because I did it myself and I know what I would have charged...

To do all that, I had to take off 6 or 7 days from work...conservatively lets say 6...another $1410.00 of rocket time/money gone....

On the good side, the house is COOL in the summer and looks like I'm saving about $100.00 or so a month on electric bill when the temps were near 100° and so far the heater is kicking @$$!!!

But back to today.....
Just trying to catch a breath...
