I made a tower type piston launcher.
A B6-4 motor will launch a rocket with a diameter of 114 mm and a total height of 1500 mm.
I write in Japanese, but I want you to translate it with the orange button in the lower left.

Piston launcher ignition system
In the Apogee kit, the igniter's fine wire is drawn from the gap between the cylinder and the motor and wired with a worm clip, but after igniting this, the worm clip and cord are lifted together and finally It works as a weight until it leaves the cylinder.
I wanted to make it as light as possible around the cylinder that ascends with the aircraft during launch.

Just saw this. Nice work. If you want to reduce the initial drag on your piston tube internal wiring Is a good approach. Here is some pictures of the piston base from one of my towers. The piston head plugs into the base. After the tube is filled it can be carried away by inertia and dropped off the rocket when optimal pressure is reached.

This looks very good.
I want to try your idea as a piston launcher for a small rocket.
Apart from that, I am thinking of a new piston launcher for large rockets. I want to try the one where the outer tube is fixed to the base and the inner piston rises with the rocket.

I tried several large volume versions. Big problem is overcoming the inconsistent ignition of composite motors. Gunpowder motors exhibit more uniform and instantaneous (or close to) ignition. Composite motors can (on ignition) sputter and fire in a not totally vertical thrust line. Piston shear and burn through will be common. I had resorted to a light magnetic hold down to overcome the sputtering. Overcoming non uniform directional thrust required longer pistons. Last try was 4 feet. Results were quite spectacular but no repeatable in any sense of the word. With this insight I hope you can figure out something new to share. Good luck!

Thank you, retortec.
I am planning a piston launcher that moves the inner tube.
We believe that the adverse effects of sputtering can be reduced by the gas that has passed through the inner tube entering the cylinder.
Also, my piston launcher supports the body tube like a tower launcher, so the piston length was about 1m.
