One obvious change is you might not want to call her a gal. ;)

All the model airplane magazines used to have cover girls displayed with the airplanes... not so much anymore.

I dunno. Unrelated sex-appeal is still a common marketing ploy to this very day. The male libido is a powerful commerce force

I flew radio control airplanes as a kid in the '70s. It always bothered me that they had 'covergirls' posing with the models as that was the only time I ever saw a female around a model airplane. Here's an example of how crazy some of the covers were:

That would not fly today.

(pun intended!)

Some motorcycle magazines, such as "Easyriders," still feature scantily-clad women to this day.

In that cavalcade of historic model airplane pictures, I was really impressed by the one with a woman in a white bikini sitting behind a huge model plane and they were both in front of the National Football Hall of Fame! That picture spewed endless maleness. Very impressive.

Hmmm, 1957....
Isn't that era all about woman's rights?
Somehow I don't think that fits in today.
She might be interested in your planes/rockets/hobbies AFTER the dinners, movies, Flights to France, etc., and that Diamond on her left hand.
But, somehow, I think you would hear more than 2 cents about it unless she was involved it herself.

I think 1957 was still the era of the housewife. There were some movements stirring at that time, but Betty Friedan's "The Feminine Mystique" didn't appear until 1963 and the real protests didn't get going until the early 1970s (symbolized by the famous Billie Jean King vs Bobby Riggs match in 1973). I wasn't there for most of this, I either didn't exist or I was still filling diapers, but that's what I've read.

You know, I never bought the magazines because of the model on the cover, but for the Technics on building and flying. During the 60's I was in to rockets, rc planes and hydro's and neither of those attracted females. I had better luck in church lol.

I've got several of these issues and not a crazy one among them. Now if you put the likes of a Kardashian or Cyrus on them, THAT would be crazy.

My favorite Model magazine was Model Builder. Even had a model rocket column by Doug Pratt for about 3 years or so. Wide-raging, included R/C boats, Free Flight planes, Control Line, and a wide variety of R/C planes of course. Yes, they had their share of "cheesecake" covers. But IIRC, no more than about 1/3 were that way. Also IIRC by the late-80's the cheesecake covers were fewer and fewer.

Below, this coincidentally is my favorite color scheme for several R/C models I built, especially sailplanes. Red wings with yellow tip panels.
