Hey Folks new to the forum and have been getting in to the hobby over the last few months with several builds completed. I just wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts on the glue I’ve been using in my builds. I’ve been using gorilla glue clear grip to attach fins, launch lugs, and shock mounts to much success. I still fillet with tite bond II and have had good results with it. The clear grip doesn’t foam and expand like other reports of standard gorilla glue I’ve read about. I like it because it sets up much quicker that wood glue but still gives you plenty of time to adjust. It also gives a tiny amount of flex to the fin which I think aids in prevent damage from hard landings. It doesn’t sand very well which is why I’m careful to remove excess with my finger when apply the fins to the body tube. I’ve used it on birds that are mini engine powered on up to e powered with no failures. Just curious to see if anyone else has had experience with it as I’ve not read any mention of it’s use in the posts I’ve read. Thanks for any input you may have! I really enjoy this forum and have learned a ton from you folks!

Seems like a contact adhesive similar to e6000 -- much fumes?
It is does not emit much fumes has a little bit of that petroleum product type scent it’s nowhere near epoxy fume wise though. I have not tried the e6000 but I couldn’t really find much info on what the clear grip is made from that’s why I wanted find to see if anyone could give more insight.

I just like using it for the quicker set time and it’s thick and easy to apply to a fin and get it to stay and not run. Rocketry has educated me a lot about adhesives to which I was utterly ignorant about before. I want to keep getting progressively better and build bigger so I want to make sure I’m not making mistakes now that could hamper an eventual mid power build. Thanks for the info!

I too use the E6000. You are right on the set up time and non-sandability. Sandability? E6000 takes hours to dry and is rather stinky but I find it works well for my builds. I do hate the GG that foams. Man was I surprised the first time I used it. And, welcome to the forum. I've found most people to be really helpful with my builds.

Foam GG is good for internal things like centering rings, as long as you are sure it will not drip to an exposed surface and become a cosmetic deformity, and as long as you are sure it will not drip into an engine mount or where you want your chute to go. It works well to glue lead weights into nose cones..

After research I think the clear grip and e6000 are essentially the same product. I’ve had great success with it too. I mount fins and and engine block and mounts with it as well as the shock cord. I use wood glue to make fillets and paper fins but I’m far too impatient to mount fins with it even though I know it works extremely well.
