My wife an I watched Snowy River: the McGregor Saga, season 1 on Amazon Prime

Really enjoyed it, unfortunately apparently no one else streams seasons 2-4.

She found a place that had them, we got the DVDs, they are double sided.

The front side plays easily, however all of our DVD players completely reject the back sides of every disc.

Anybody know any tricks?

Thanks,

Tom

Sometimes the synchronicity of the universe makes me paranoid. Are you spying on me?

My wife and I decided to watch the original Terminator movie today because there is a new one coming out soon. Our copy is really old, and when I opened it up, it was a two-sided disc. It really stood out for me because I hadn’t seen one for so many years. I wasn’t sure which side to play. I popped it into the 4K player, and it was the special features side. Ejected it and flipped it over to play the movie. Both sides worked in this player.

I think it is very weird I was just thinking about 2-sided DVD discs 3 hours ago and see this post immediately afterward.

For some reason your post makes me think of the an old fav TV show, "The Prisoner".

@BABAR: The only time I have experienced what you describe was due to the DVD set being bogus rips that had been passed off as a commercial release. The DVD set was purchased on Amazon via a 3rd party seller. IIRC that seller was based in China.

I would suggest trying to playing the discs on your computer using VLC Media Player (Link). If VLC is successful, I would suggest ripping a single DVD (both sides) using DVD Decrypter (Link) and then burn each rip to a good quality single sided DVD-R. Now test your new creations on your standalone player(s). If your test is successful, repeat the ripping/burning process on your remaining DVD set.

Note: Ripping media is legal under the "Fair Use Act" as long as the original media was acquired legally. Just remember to hold onto the purchased DVD set as proof of ownership.

how about the weather balloon they used for security called "rover"
I loved that show when it was shown on UNC TV aka PBS

Baader-Mainhoff. Wow, there's a blast from the past. I was in Germany in the 70s when they were raising hell. Interesting times.

Baader-Mainhoff or not, I've also just got a DVD here ("Half Angel", Loretta Young) that won't rip with Handbrake. Thanks for link to DVD Decrypter - giving it a try.

you are welcome.

Btw, there is a transcoder app (application that converts between media formats) that can rip Blu-Rays as well as DVDs. It is known as MakeMKV (Link). It differs from DVD Decrypter in that it's primary function is to convert optical media to .mkv files. Still, it is a very useful tool.
A note to first time users of MakeMKV. Once every 3 months, the programs beta application key will expire and must be updated. New beta keys can only be downloaded from MakeMKV's user forum (Here).

Hey Tom,
In my opinion, you shouldn't have to jump through a lot of hoops to get satisfaction. Ask the vendor wtf is going on, why doesn't it play on all five of my dvd players. If you do not get a satisfactory answer, get your money back and consider other vendors. I found a couple of vendors that are selling the complete series (65 episodes on 16 discs). They apparently are ripped copies to DVD-R, and they tell you that up front.

MakeMKV is excellent. I paid for a copy despite the "beta program" that has persisted for a decade.
