https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salem_witch_trials

"The Salem witch trials were a series of hearings and prosecutions of people accused of witchcraft in colonial Massachusetts between February 1692 and May 1693. More than 200 people were accused, 19 of whom were found guilty and executed by hanging (14 women and 5 men). One other man, Giles Corey, was crushed to death for refusing to plead, and at least five people died in jail. It was the deadliest witch hunt in the history of colonial North America.

Twelve other women had previously been executed in Massachusetts and Connecticut during the 17th century. Despite being generally known as the Salem witch trials, the preliminary 1692 hearings were conducted in several towns among which Salem was included, such as Danvers (then known as Salem Village), Ipswich, and Andover. The most infamous trials were conducted by the Court of Oyer and Terminer in 1692 in Salem Town."

Just got back from Colonial Williamsburg last week.
Saw a program the reenactors put on called The Trial of a Witch .
Very interesting.
If anyone gets a chance to go there it is well worth it.
But you need at least 3 days to do it justice

I've been to Salem, MA and seen the actual places. They do reenactments, sell souvenirs, have a wax museum, and all kinds of stuff. Fun for the kids (if they're old enough to like creepy).

I got it.
Not sure why I even opened the thread. Just shows that I'm as susceptible to trolling as anyone I suppose. sigh.

(Though, to be fair, accurate trolling would have used the word "greatest".)

Ohhhhhh....

Wouldn't that count as McCarthyism?

Hard to say without running a proper witch test!
Gathering a statically significant sample size might be tricky...

Just another case of George "Hypocrite" Gassaway sneaking politics into the forum, after years of complaining when others do it.

No politics here Mushtang. But it *IS* a response to Winston's right wing fear-mongering posts.

Every time he does it, I'm gonna post something. I'm done with sitting back expecting mods to do anything. You have not said a freaking thing about his China and Saudi war rabble-rousing threads.

No, I haven't, because I don't see the issue. Care to clarify?

Also, I don't see the need to be a self appointed moderator like you've done frequently in the past. You've posted the forum rules and complained loudly when someone does less than what you're doing.

To be clear, I don't object to politics being posted on the forums over all, but I do object to it only being allowed one sided too. I've posted Conservative memes in reply to Liberal memes in the same sort of protest you're doing. The difference being I don't have the history of complaining about politics like you do which is what makes this very hypocritical of you.

I only point out geopolitical adversaries who would love to replace us as the dominant world power and, in the case of China especially, are trying very hard to do so. Most of the US public at least until recently ignorantly saw China as our reformed communist buddies especially since they saw "Made in China" on nearly everything they bought and bought and paid for pols spewed that. They aren't. They understandably want to be the top dog and while WE certainly aren't saints, if that ever happens, the rest of the world will dearly miss the US.

P.S. Russia isn't our friend either... the cold war never really ended thanks to basic human nature which hasn't changed in eons because it was evolutionarily developed from before we began to walk erect. On the quirky sitcom Northern Exposure, native american movie buff and budding film creator Ed Chigliak was told during a dream visit with Woody Allen's mom that he should consider his audience to be "Monkeys with car keys." I've corrected that to, "Apes with car keys." That's why a Star Trek Federation is not likely to happen for a very, very long time. Unfortunately, the people who gravitate to positions of political power don't represent the best of apes with car keys.
