openrocket color question

Go to your paint program (I use MS Paint)... Get the RGB value of the color you want...
Go to OR, double click on the part you are changing color.
Open the "Appearance" tab, and uncheck the "Appearance ☑ Use default" box (in the lower section of the window).
Click on the "Color: □" box (default is typically black), and swatches of color appear.
Click on the "RGB" tab.
Enter your color's RGB values then click "OK"

Regrettably, OR doesn't keep a "pallet" for you to save custom colors with. So, you'll need to enter the values for each part.

I don't know how to get custom values for: Hue Saturation Value (HSV), Hue Saturation Light (HSL), Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black, Alpha (CMYK), and thus don't use those features. Though now I wonder if any one of those could be used to simulate chrome or some other metallic color accurately.

You can also create a small "decal" (aka Texture) of the color, then apply that like you would any other graphic in OR.

No problem...

I just did the math... 255^3 colors comes out to be over 16.5 million colors, which is more than the average human eye can distinguish. However metallic colors are subject to lighting, and surroundings which is part of the reason that OR doesn't seem to be able to represent them well.

I also figured out how to copy a fin profile from a OR file and paste it into a different OR file and upscale the fin
using the scale command and the fin root edge measurements

still have 9 minutes of sunlight left. When you look at anything you are looking at how it was in the past not the now. even though the past
happened several fractions of a second ago.
 
If you're on Windows, may I suggest Instant Eyedropper. This is a little tool that let's you roll around the screen and shows the color under the cursor, in any color format you want, like so:

Problem is, so many of the colors we're using are from compressed images (e.g. .jpg). And if you blow them up, you'll see that the color that you're looking at is actually made from blobs of different colors. Typically, I'll use a small sample of relatively "pure" color (no weird bright or dark spots) and find an online color sampler to figure out the average color.

Neil, I did what you wrote, but still no joy. I already figured out the uncheck use defaults. When I select 3d image mode, the outline of the rocket disappears and there is no image in the design window. Dialog box is the same as Cape.

Brief background info: I was able to download open rocket and open an existing file in the "program". Compared to some other members, this is good progress. I was able to alter file to design the rocket I wanted and "make it my own". I am very satisfied with this and it meets my needs; but it would be real cool if I could color it.
 
Good idea. It is attached below. I opened some of the examples that come with open rocket. It appeared that they should have had "fill" color, but they did not. I appreciate your help and patience.:)

Here's what 3D finished view looks like on my machine. At least one component is successfully colored. Is this different from what you see?

Yes it is different. On your computer the file is being displayed exactly as I "built" it. The fore body tube is yellow, the selected color. Attached below is a picture of what is on my screen - nothing.

It's the same file - D enginerocket, view type is - 3d finished

Glad to hear that this was resolved. It sounded like a software issue, so I stayed out of it.
