I just finished an ESAM 58 and a Luna Bug. The ESAM is an excellent kit and good sized for the price. The Luna Bug is a fun build, although I'm afraid it's a "fire and forget" type of rocket, because of it's small size.

Wow, thanks. I just got back into Rocketry and had no idea they had exclusives.

Just finished a ESAM also. Was fun to build, good looking.
Can't wait for cooler weather to see how she flys

RE Luna, may not be as bad as Mosquito, due to drag of the foot pads, less altitude. Mosquito was ballistic recovery (featherweight, yes, but still ballistic.) This one likely will be ballistic as well, but might be a bit slower, again due to dragging it's "feet." Given motor prices are cheap, doesn't cost much extra to make the first 4 flights on the smallest recommended engine.

We will see at Saturdays CMASS launch.....

Went by Hobby Lobby on the way home from work. Picked up the ESAM-58, Tirgres, Long Ranger, and Cadet. I just built the Semroc Cherokee D, so the E will have to wait till next time. I have the Double Ringer and Stirling Silver in my build pile, so the similar ones I took a pass on. I’m on the fence on the Luna Bug, but I’m sure I’ll eventually pull the trigger. I just know that once it’s off the pad, it’ll be a gift to the rocket gods.

I'll be posting this elsewhere, too, but we're postponing the launch to Sunday the 15th. Hope you can make it as I want to see what the excitement about this little rocket is all about.

I'll be there for a little while, I have something going on in the evening, so I'll have to leave a bit earlier. The Luna Bug isn't super special, but it does have a certain appeal.

What’s the lowest recommended motor?

The recommended motors, according to the face card are 1/4A3-3t, 1/2A3-2t, 1/2A3-4t and, of course the A10-3t teleportation device.

I am actually working on an upscale version of the ESAM 58 with Wildman. It's going to be an 8" kit built for a 152 mm motor. Winter project:D

I am curious how many people who lose Mosquitoes on their first flights use the 1/4A3-3t motor.

Anyone else have the experience that HL will not honor the 40% off coupon on these rockets because all of them have the "Your Price" stickers on them? Bought three rockets Saturday and all three were not eligible for the discount.

Unfortunately, you are no longer able to use the 40% off coupon for rocket stuff like kits, motors and other Estes branded items. I believe Estes and HL worked out a deal where all the rocketry stuff is already deeply discounted.
I have found that there is always something else that I can use the coupon for like epoxy, paint and other modeling supplies.

You can't use the 40% coupon any more, but the new yellow sticker prices are still 30% off, right? That's still as good as you can get other than mail order. And now I can go stock up on engines there and not have to do the "one at a time" coupon dance.

Yup, 40% off no good on yellow stickers, but they are already discounted about 30%, so prices are decent.
I use the coupon (you can pull it up on your cell phone) for other stuff, like balsa sheets and paint.

I flew mine this past Saturday on a 1/4A3-3T and yes, those footpads clearly slow it down during descent. One can actually follow it in flight, even on the way down.

My nearest HL is over an hour away. I've gone to their web site hoping to order on line, but they do not show any of their exclusive kits.....

That’s odd - I just checked the website and the ESAM, Long Ranger, Solo, and Cherokee are all available. Unless HL uses your location to filter their website you should be able to order them...

Finally got home for a bit last night and noticed my Cherokee BT is messed up will be headed to hobby lobby tomorrow to get it replaced.

A member of YORF found another HL exclusive in the Estes TARC info - the Olympus. It looks like a variation of the bulk pack only Green Eggs egg lofter, using the BT-65 body tube and clear payload section with a different nose cone and fin shape - along with a sweet, right off the side of a 70s custom van Zeus decal!

That’s a strange place to put the ad. It makes you think it’s going to be powered by 29mm (at least I did at first). But it flies on D’s and E’s, which says to me 24mm. And knowing that Hobby Lobby put all its 29mm motors on clearance just a few months ago means it probably won’t sell any 29mm rockets.

Maybe they are bringing them back. Oh, please beign back the 29mm so I can stop paying HAZMAT.

I downloaded the guide and read through it - I think the page with the Olympus is just awkwardly worded, I’d guess that it’s a 24mm motored rocket. The text doesn’t list the SBB and the Olympus together in the same sentence, which would be the logical way to construct that section if they shared motors. But I really, really hope my guess is wrong since I love Estes 29mm PSII BP motors but hate paying the hazmat shipping fee.
