Alright guys, I wanted to try out something different and I ended up with good results. I have here a carbon/innegra tube. I am going to cut it to 57” long. I will cut it on Friday and will have the weight information. The OD reads around 2.27” to 2.275”. The ID matches fiberglass couplers well.

Winding Pattern:
90
35 +/-
90
35+/-

Epoxy TG is 180F.

NOTE: Innegra much like kevlar does not like to be sanded.

I am asking $100 plus shipping for this one. Please PM me if interested.

Thank you

Very interesting.

What are the properties does the innegra impart to the carbon tube composite?

The innegra gives the carbon an impact resistance. Carbon is very brittle alone, but when mixed with Innegra it will allow for some flexibility.

You can take a hammer and smack this tube and it will not break apart. I’d advice you not doing this, because the hammer might bounce back and hit you.

Fascinating!

What's the stiffness and weight tradeoffs compared to carbon?

Innegra by itself is not as stiff and therefore it is best to mix it with glass, carbon or basalt. When together it is very stiff. This tube I made is pretty stiff.

The Density of Innegra is lighter than carbon. This makes the finished tube lighter than just an all pure carbon tube.

That tube is beautiful. I wish I had a need for something like that at the moment, I’d love seeing that punch a hole in the sky.

Looks interesting. What is postage to Oztralia on something like that worth?

I am not sure, I tried to ship some items back to china and the post office charged me $35 to send it out. It was a small box, so I can only imagine just how much it will cost to send this longer box to Australia.

I can't believe no one has bought this yet. If only I wasn't so damn broke all the time..

If Innegra doesn't like to be sanded, how would one best attach fins to this? Tip to tip glass/carbon?

It will pretty much fuzz when sanded just like kevlar. To attach fins you want to sand into it. Of course don’t use a rough grit. Around 400 grit should be good.

Any epoxy such as rocketpoxy or Aeropoxy structual adhesive will work as long as you get a good sanded surface.

Seems to me that sanding fuzzies into the tube at fin attachment point would aid in bonding. Isn't adding chopped carbon the latest fad?
