Is the relatively new Estes kit "Sasha SA-2061" based on a real rocket? I can't seem to find anything online that it might correlate to. Is it just their own original design?

Just curious.

No, It is not based on a single Russian surface to air missiles. I was designing and building my NARAM 60 scale entry at the time which was a Russian SA-5 Missile. I was in the Russian Missile mood so I designed a looks like a scale model for Estes.

The Estes page simply states that the Sasha is "inspired by Russian military design," so it's apparently not based on an actual rocket or missile.

Um, did you not believe Jumpjet's answer? That's John Boren, he's the primary designer of all Estes' rockets these days, including the Sasha.

I will also echo that it is a *great* looking kit. Is it the first ever Estes gap-staged model?

It's not that I didn't believe it, I didn't know who he was so I wasn't quite sure what to make of it. Thank you for clearing that up.

And thanks for the response, @JumpJet - sorry for any misunderstandings! I didn't know what I didn't know.

I'm still pretty new to this entire hobby...

Don’t sweat it.
Your posts keep attention on a new cool rocket. That’s a win for Estes!
