WILDMAN/CRAZY JIM Flying circus launching 27ft "MEGA" DarkStar at LDRS....."O" my!

I just got home from LDRS and from what I heard the front closure failed. Todays shot was perfect

The attached picture... Motor blowout near the fwd closure.

Here is a quick summary
The 2 stage flew on Saturday the booster Catoed 3 seconds into a the burn sending the sustainer off vertical and the sustainer didn’t light but deployed perfectly.
We put the sustainer back together and flew it the next day to 15k

So we flew the p8000 single use motor twice in one weekend

Nope. The P8000 was the sustainer motor; it performed well on Sunday after taking a free ride on Saturday.

The booster motor was an EX 6" O motor (not mine). It burned through at the base of the forward bulkhead. I was able to inspect the aftermath and I think I know what went wrong; I'll save that discussion for another place and time.

The O25,000 was a backup plan. I wouldn't be surprised if it appears in a Mega-Darkstar-like rocket in the not-so-distant future.

Congrats Tim. I witnessed both flights and both were successful in their own way. With the safety requirements and the electronics available today, combined with your ability to put it all together, the first flight did just as it should have notwithstanding the "glitch" of the case burning through.

This allowed Sunday's flight which was perfect in every way that I saw. Using a single use motor twice is something dreams are made of. Particularly a motor that size. Less that a handful of years ago this would/could have ended very differently.

Congrats again Tim. Great job. I'm just glad I wasn't on the recovery crew.
