This will be our first time going to the Rocket pasture, I got the information Email pointing out some of the do's and don'ts especially about staying on the improved roads.
For those who have been there what's it like in the area where the flyers will be set up? The sat photos don't show a lot of detail is it all dirt, scrub grass, or hard pack? I figure
we will need to bring the rubber boots if the rains continues but does it soak in fast or does it stay on the surface. Does it get real muddy where you sink a few inches or does it
just get sticky and messy? Going thru the final packing and needs list and trying to make sure we bring everything we need. Looking forward to being there and Thanks in advance
for any info.

If it rains at the pasture, there are areas that can get pretty muddy. Generally, the pasture itself (the flyers area) is OK with plenty of grass, and it stays pretty solid. After even a light rain, open dirt areas (recovery areas), can get mucky. Won't have too many areas where you sink into the mud, but it will stick to your footwear. Some of the lower areas (waterways) may have a few inches of standing water. Rubber boots are always a good idea.

"Better to have it, and not need it, than to need it, and not have it".

As a side note to everyone attending LDRS:
When driving to the pasture, stay on the prescribed route as indicated by the KloudBuster map:
https://www.kloudbusters.org/sitemap.aspx

DO NOT take shortcuts down the ungraveled dirt roads. YOU WILL GET STUCK!
If you're driving a car, YOU WILL GET STUCK!
If you're driving a 4WD, YOU WILL GET STUCK!
If you're driving a tracked vehicle (i.e. tank), YOU WILL GET STUCK!
Even the slightest amount of moisture in the road dirt turns it into a greasy muddy mess, and YOU WILL GET STUCK!

If you get stuck, it is EXPENSIVE to get a pull out. And when you are stuck you can't fly rockets!
Follow the KB map to the pasture:

Years ago (about 16 I think) we had a summer with no rain. There were 2" wide cracks in the dry ground. Off we go to AIRFEST in a motor home. So after 2 1/2 months WITHOUT rain, it rains like 6"+ overnight. The motor home was stuck up to the axles. It took TWO FWD trucks, rocking the thing to get it out. The ruts are still there. Just sayin'. Pray for sunshine and NO rain.;)

This video will give you a good idea of what you will experience on the launch site. This was shot last AIRFest.

This is farm/crop land. We are not kidding about using the improved roads. The dirt roads are DIRT. Bring mud boots if you think it will rain.

Watch “Airfest 2018” on Vimeo: Everywhere you see dirt would be mud if it rains. Dirt+water=mud.

Made it to the Rocket Pasture this afternoon and managed a couple quick pictures right before dark that I wanted to share. I hate to hazard a guess at the number, but for a Tuesday afternoon there is already a growing crowd. I am currently at the end of the RV row and snapped the picture looking back towards the entrance trying to get everyone here in frame - which is already a stretch. No worries, the second picture shows the vast expanse of area the KLOUDBusters have prepped and ready for the masses to show up and make camp. Hats off and a big thanks to everyone involved in making this weekend possible - more to come if and when able...

Nice to see the Arizona flag.

vendors are on the front row lined up with the circus tent if they registered and were given a spot

RVs are being put end out this year it looks like instead of on the fence

Does anyone know where LDRS 39 (2020) will be held? Has the decision been made yet?

The location of the next LDRS is almost always announced at the very end of the banquet. One time LDRS was held early in the year and we hadn’t received a bid yet. In that case we announced it a few weeks after the banquet.
We encourage all Prefectures to get their bids for the next LDRS in well before the current LDRS so the board can discuss them in advance.

I couldn't resist

And for all the dire weather predictions and all the hand wringing over what the weather was going to do this afternoon had to be some of the best weather I have ever seen for a rocket launch - anywhere.

And I just gotta say how impressed I am with the organization of the Kloudbusters. Everything is running sooooo smoothly. Had a great time pushing buttons and flipping switches at the LCO table today. If you're not volunteering you're missing out.

Agreed! Kloudbusters is doing a great job hosting this event. My 1st LDRS & 1st time in Argonia. Great people. Tomorrow & Sunday I am playing away pad RSO.

Flew the first flight of today. Rain for a good bit of the morning, finally it cleared up and the clouds started moving up and away, around noon.

I don't have a pic I can post, but the rocket was a 4" upscale Alpha, with one of the 70s "Alpha" paint jobs---colored nose, one fin, and a panel between that fin and the next, except I used anodized purple instead of the original red.

I-180 with motor ejection (who does THAT with an I-motor any more?) to about 1600 feet. Ate a little Kansas soil, barely muddy. Wipes off.
