G'day from down under!

Voting for our entry in a photo caption competition will help us secure a much needed piece of ground support equipment - a portable toilet - valued at over $2500 (AUD).

Serpentine launch site, located in the north western limb of Australia's State of Victoria recently celebrated over 20 years of operations for over 6000 flights to date. Yay!

You can help us improve the site, increase convenience for fliers, and improve further our relationship with the landholder - by voting for our caption - submitted by David B (photo below).

To support us, you will need to vote for the caption: "At ... we're taking portable toilets to new heights."

You can vote here:https://1.shortstack.com/TJx7f1/qtngV?w=76900233&e=224934915

Remember, vote early, and vote often! We will thank you if you can help us with the vote. If you can't, we'll thank you anyway.

BTW, when would NOW be a good time to share this photo caption naming link above, with instructions, with your friends, family, and even people you don't know?

Warm regards

Noel

I was vote 659
Closest competitor is at 1
Let's run it up!
We're sneaky buggers down under, you have to look deep into the details to find our next nearest competitor with over 600 votes, and rising quickly. Thanks "MClark", I love your approach. Every vote counts.

I was vote 1450! I see it doesn't end until next April. You'll have to send out reminders periodically to go vote again.

Thanks to everyone who is voting on this for us. Will give us a more comfortable location for downloading ;). Will be much nicer for the ladies.

If you haven't voted, please help us out :).

Voted. Looks like you guys have the lead with about a week to go. Everyone help these guys out and vote so they get #1 because if they end up #2 that would just be crappy.

Of course, I knew better. Thanks for the reminder. Good luck.

"In Australia our date format is DD/MM/YY. Comp ends September 4th."

That’s everyone for your support. Keep those votes coming. We have nearly two weeks for voting to go, so additional votes could make all the difference.

Dear friends,

I want to thank all of you for kind support of our Victorian Prefecture in securing a vital piece of ground support equipment - see attached picture. We want to thank Australian Portable Toilets (APT) for running the competition. We appreciate APT's generous support of our club. Pictured here, Shae (APT staff members overseeing the competition) congratulates David Boyd.

David Boyd (President of the Victorian Tripoli Prefecture for over a decade) continues his committed actions, and strategically focused activities to grow our club and enrich the rocketry experience of our members and visitors. He introduced Tripoli to Australia. For this alone, his contributions warrant praise and recognition. What sets him apart, is that he continues to facilitate the growth of Australian rocketry via enthusiastic guidance and mentoring new, and some of the most experienced rocketeers. Doubly so, through his lateral thinking that yielded this prize. All credit to him - he deserves that, and much more.

Likewise, we owe Craig Robinson (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology - RMIT) an equal vote of thanks. Craig led social media initiatives to secure significantly more than half of the votes of support that allowed us to win this vital piece of ground support equipment. He and his colleagues at RMIT, Monash, and Sydney Universities continue to support us, and Australia's longest serving amateur rocketry launch site.

We thank them all for their commitment to aerospace activities in this country - from which we continue to learn and grow.

However, most importantly, it is people like you - the members of this forum - who make our community great. You lend us strength with your wisdom, support when we ask, and a shared passion from which we draw profound inspiration.

THANK YOU!image001.png

Noel

By the way: You are all invited to visit the prefecture to meet our club's outstanding members, and to sample the delights of our airspace. Of course, our GSE is right up there too - now!

I was happy to vote for this, but what is special about this that makes it cost so much? A standard molded plastic portable toilet typically runs about $650 US. Is this a different technology than the fill and pump rental units?

Ah Steve, meet Australia’s currency - the pacific peso- and it’s buying power right now. Also, toilet is maybe a bit different from what you describe. It has tank water for washing up, and comes in red, or Tardis blue. Also, all of the other features you might expect in a thunder box.

Also, all credit to Karl Hemphill who led the 1:1 v2 project that held the record for the world’s largest rocket for a while. Karl’s generosity to the rocketry community is both well known and greatly appreciated. He is donating a trailer to create a
portable commode - capable of transport to more remote sites. Yes! As always Karl, thanks. You rock!

it was a s****y job, but we were able to push through and expel a crap-load of votes for you!

Thanks goes to everyone who voted to help us out. There is bound to be a pun or joke that is relevant, but I will just leave it at a "Thank you" :).

Glad to be able to help out. After spending the past week camping in the River of No Return Wilderness area where the only choices were pit toilet or shovel, that toilet looks luxurious.
