Strap on boosters, SRB's and Parallel staging.

I think we can all agree make any rocket an order of magnitude more awesome so let's start a show and tell thread for your rockets.

Lets see your flight pictures, staging and info on how you achieved booster separation.

LPR,MPR and HPR all welcome.
 
I have a "gravity staged" 24/18mm model in pieces, I'll have to see what I can track down in terms of documentation. Long story short, the boosters are just held on by the thrust of the motors. One of the booster tubes got dented by a hard landing, but I got another E9 from a friend recently so I may have to dust it off and see what can be fixed.
 
My Final Cut project under construction is an upgrade from a previous project with strap on boosters. The last project had only two but the two K700's lifted the >100 pound rocket without coming off. At the desired time, they gently fall away. Here are some drawings of the current design with six SOB's. The rocket is 8" diameter with 54mm boosters. There will be over a dozen cameras on board.

Here is a cutaway of the booster. The strap on boosters are clamped on using a device called a booster dropper (below).

Here is the details of the booster dropper along with a cutaway section view. There are two sections. One is attached to the SOB and the other is clamped into the rocket booster. The two pieces are held together with a 1/4-20 Nylon bolt. A small charge breaks the Nylon bolt and the SOB falls away from the rocket.

We gotcher Falcon Heavy model right heeere! The linked post shows the lower latches pretty well. Other posts in the thread are more useful for upper latches, plus some cautionary tales about motor selection.
 
Eyesinthesky, Very nice design! I'm curious, what will be the launch sequence of all motors?

Thanks, I haven't decided yet but my inclination is to start all motors on the ground with the SOB's delayed after the 98mm main motor. Also the motor selection has not been determined yet but likely all long burn motors. Each pair of SOB's can be deployed independently but I was thinking of staggering them by 0.1 sec. If necessary, I may have to have one set be shorter burn for higher thrust.

I'l use a current limiting circuit for the igniters since clustering all those e-matches would likely cause them to fire at different times.
 
Eyesinthesky, what an amazing project, I wish I could see this fly in person. Are you using two of the separation devices per booster?
 
Sorry I'm late to the party here, (just now getting familiar with Rocketry Forum) but here's my frankenstein/scratch build named Oranus made from some old Estes kits and two Quest RTF rockets for boosters that work like the pods Apogee sells. The core flies on a D12-5 or D12-7 while the boosters pack either A8-3s or B4-2s so they have plenty of time to pop off with the core still climbing. (see also my profile pic).

Eyesinthesky, what an amazing project, I wish I could see this fly in person. Are you using two of the separation devices per booster?

Yes. Like all my rockets, this is not for performance but for cinematic beauty (and challenge). The SOB's are designed to be (1) stable, and (2) balanced very near the mid point of the two booster droppers. The idea is that when they deploy, they do not tumble but move away slowly and still parallel to the rocket. Each has a camera in the nose cone but half of them look upwards and half look out the side. Most of the cameras on the rocket look down. I have hopes of flying it at NSL 2020.
 
Here is a video from a test I did this weekend deploying the 54mm strap on boosters. Each weighed about 6 pounds. There is also videos from some of the cameras on the rocket and the strap on booster.

 
I'm very interested in parallel staging high power rockets and am interested in those booster droppers. I've heard of them before, but have never seen them for sale. Do you have to make them yourself?
 
Never seen for sale. I did mine, but never tried them. Going another route for drop.

I have not seen them for sale. The original ones were made from aluminum turned on a lathe. Because of the quantity I needed, I molded mine with JB Weld. I can send you the details if you're interested.
