That's a great shot!

Camera?

That's very kind of you, thanks.

As for equipment, I shoot these days with a Sony A7RII camera body and for glass, I'm using a Canon 70-200 IS USM L (Metabones Adapter so the lens and camera can communicate with each other), and shoot manual and capture RAW files to edit from. As for the depth of field, to isolate the rocket (and still have the people somewhat discernable). I open the aperture up a bit. I'm not sure about this one, it may have been f/6.3 or f/8. Anything bigger and the people will just be random colors. For shutter speed, I believe it was nothing faster than 1/1,600 of a sec.

I know this is an old thread; but maybe someone is watching??

Howdy all, first post on this forum, so I figured I'd start here.

Building the NCR/Estes SA-14 Archer XL at 4" dia. using the Aerotech G-Force kit as everything measures out pretty much to 57" (not the NCR catalog 62" length, I know.) Yet, the NCR/Estes instructions show the NCR part numbers and the nose cone, slotted airframe tube and extension tube all add up to 57", so who knows...

Anyway, I am here wondering if anyone has this model on hand and could measure the 4 lengths of the main fins. I have a rocksim file that was uploaded by the forum user, Flash from another thread here (thank you!!) and I have edited the rocket design a smidge to work in OpenRocket and to get the weights correct for my model.

What I am now looking for are fin measurements. The fins are measured in the rocket file, I am just hoping someone could get me their measurements so i can cross-reference them with the dimensions I have.

AND... if someone just happens to have a fin template they could upload be awesome as well!!

Here is my openrocket fin measurements from the file I downloaded. Fins attach to a 4" BT.

Thanks!!

I just have the final paint and decal left to do on my NCRbE SA Archer XL. Looking forward to posting pictures so I subbed this thread.

I used an original kit but changed the MMT from 28mm (not a typo) to 38mm and cut new TTW fins to fit the new MMT. The rocksim file I used has these data points. IIRC they matched up to the stock fin set.

My 4" Archer from a few years ago on a G64. Ended up glassing the strakes as the stock ones could easily (and did) snap if it hit just right since they are balsa and the grain runs parallel to the body tube, easy snap.

Here's a pic of my NCR Archer -- still a few weeks from launch and lacking a few additional trim details and stripes I plan to add.

This is my first mid-power rocket.

I noticed most earlier versions separate at the nosecone. Mine separates just above the strakes -- which also allows me to completely remove the "payload bay" and fly it shorter.

In that form it strongly resembles Raytheon's Peregrine AA missile.

I'm looking forward to a first flight in a few weeks.
