Mentioned in the post right before yours. Not made-for-TV; it was a theatrical release.

I saw Sunshine post a while back. A couple of my favorite in the Space Horror sub genre are:
Event Horizon
Pandorum

not a movie but

Just started watching Apollo 18 the other day on Netflix. I think I'm 1/4 to 1/2 way through it. There are some scenes there that give you the willies...:eek:

Hard to believe that you all missed it...

The Day the Earth Stood Still. Klatu barada nickto!
Yep, the original was fantastic. Black and white film-noir-mood sci-fi with a great plot. The remake absolutely sucked, of course.

Surprised no one mentioned Forbidden Planet yet. Maybe not the best, but one of many firsts. Stars Leslie Nielsen of “I am serious, and stop calling me Shirley.” fame.
Monsters from the id. The animation of the Krell power plant as well as its description was awesome.

Krell Factory Tour: A Behind the Scenes Look at What Makes Krell One of the Truly Great Brands in High End Audio

https://www.pooraudiophile.com/2015...the-truly-great-brands-in-high-end-audio.html

The company’s name stems from the “Krell,” the extinct race of advanced beings of the planet Altair IV from the 1956 science fiction film, Forbidden Planet. In the movie, the Krell’s scientific prowess and technology has advanced to the point that they were able to build a massive underground machine with virtually unlimited power.

I like a lot of the movies listed above. One that hasn't been mentioned is 'Countdown', 1968. The Rooshians are about to get to the moon first, so the US does a crash program to put one man on the moon, in a habitat that's already been landed. James Caan and Robert Duvall (also appeared together on The Godfather). Panned by the critics but seems fairly realistic to me for a movie done in the 60s. Face it, most of the early movies were "Hey, I got an idea, let's have a monster that comes out and kills everyone!"
Hmm, didn't even know about that one. I long ago ran out of better known sci-fi films to watch. Unfortunately, it looks like that one will be hard to see without buying the DVD.

I've only watched the first Star Wars ( which I thought was some really stupid crap)...
You know, I was afraid to say it because of attacks I might get, but TCM recently had the first Star Wars on and upon re-watching it I have to say I now think it was some pretty juvenile stuff.

I am one of those people who just can't pick a favorite (of anything). I would get thrown off the bridge for sure at "favorite color."
LOL, same here. Too many good choices and my tastes change with time (see my Star Wars comment).

Can't say it was my favorite, but you don't see this one mentioned much and it deserves to be, I think. Don't read about it as there may be spoilers. I happened across and watched it on cable and knew nothing about it before I did:

Fun fact: there were two different books by Martin Caidin. The first one had Pruett marooned alone in a Mercury flight (he was rescued), the second was (I think) written after, and adapted from, the movie (Pruett died attempting to fix the SM engine). I've got both books. Check eBay, look for the book with an outline of Mercury capsule.

Best -- Terry

There were two separate editions of "Marooned" by Martin Caidin -- the first version based on Mercury/Vostok and the second on Apollo/Soyuz.

I'm pretty sure the second version was rewritten by Caidin pretty much coincidentally with the production of the movie in 1968-69.

The second version has a lot of flashback stuff dealing with Jim Pruitt's background as a test pilot, etc etc, and also some fairly lengthy passages dealing with the actual calculations of orbital rendezvous maneuvers.

Might have been fun to see a third version set in the mid-to-late Eighties or Nineties, with a crippled Shuttle, and Soviets coming up in the then-unknown Buran for the rescue.

Not to derail the thread but I wanted to get some attention for my favorite space related song, Telstar by The Tornadoes.

Or the remixed stereo version with some early rocketry footage.

Now I thought that was by the Ventures... At least my dad had a Ventures album with that song on it.

A dopey one here with Jerry Lewis, Connie Stevens, Dennis Weaver, Howard Morris, James Brolin, Robert Morley, Brian Keith, Dick Shawn and Linda Harrison Of Planet Of The Apes fame. "Way, Way Out".

That big furry ape looking thing was just really goofy. IMO and the bar scene with all the even more sillier creatures made me want to walk out and do something productive....lol
