Picked up a MC Sport X while it was on sale to log some more 29/38mm flights on while I work on my L-2 build. Wondering if anyone else has built one and how they like it ? tips ? motors flown , ect.

Thanks , Andy

Nice kit. I used the included coupler to make an AV bay and turned it into a DD rocket. I've flown mine with a J350W.

Very Nice- I plan on doing the av bay as well. Did you end up with any nose weight added ??

Not one to let a new kit sit long - I dove right in. As usual from MadCow , the dry fit was very nice with minimal sanding.
Started on the motor mount soon after and will post some pics as we go.

Did you end up with any nose weight added ?

I added an AV bay in the nose cone and use an Eggfinder as my nose weight. The combined weight of nose cone, bulkheads, Eggfinder, battery, sled, ubolt, etc is approx 7.66 oz. The AV bay also adds a little weight up forward. Open rocket calculates 1.93 cal with a J350 and my "nose weight."

very nice guys. question regarding the Mad Cow cardboard tubes, I have heard that they are this or "thinner" than those from other manufactures. can you speak to this? would you agree or do you find that they are adequate?

in a way, taking J350 answers it.

Great kit for the $$ and everything fit with minimal work. I recently built one and will be using it for my L1 attempt here soon. So far I have tested it successfully with G64’s. Looking forward to seeing what it can do with high power!

Very nice- heck your darn near doing your L-1 with what your already flying on the G64'S -
A 38mm H90 CTI wont go much higher- if at all. Good luck on your L-1

Got the first fin in tonight after work, didnt have much time .
Off friday and sat , should have it in primer soon

Went and did a successful level 1 certification flight yesterday with the sport x! Flew straight and true even with a bit of wind! Aerotech H-135w dms boosted up to ~2300ft. Now I need to get my first hpr motor casings Thanks to James of the SARA club for all the help!

Hows the build coming along? Thanks for the congrats btw!! Went to a launch today and got to send mine up on a h-180 with onboard video! This rocket boosts straight as an arrow! Love the sport X!

New alt and switch should be here next week, but we dont fly again until Sept , so I will probably go ahead and paint it before the first flight.
Any idea what kind of altitude you got with the H180 ??

Sweet! it is nice to get things tuned in real good before a maiden. Rocksim is saying just over 2300ft. I believe it did all of that and maybe a bit more... it was up there. I had drilled the 14 second delay down to 10 seconds and it could have used another 2 seconds! I think I have the cd set just a bit too high in my simulations. However I will get a solid number at next months launch when I actually put an altimeter in it. Last month I flew it on a H195T dms and it seemed lower, also the 10 sec delay was right at/just after apogee. So far the H180 has been my favorite. I have a H210 and a H250 I want to try as well!

Good stuff wij - Thanks for sharing. I went ahead and shot some paint on mine last weekend just to get some color on it , re assembled everything tonight and added the rest of the recovery stuff. Im not real thrilled about how much room is left to house the chute in the upper with the added av bay . I may change that tube out for a longer upper tube just to buy a little more chute room and and get everything off the main ejection charge. I ended up going with a RRC2+ for dual deploy.

You can gain about 3 inches of room if you cut the bottom of the nose cone off and install a bulkhead at the top of the shoulder. I did this on my Sport X and added an AV bay for tracking. John Cocker has a video and there is at least one thread on TRF.

very nice clean look with the yellow and black. Mine is still sitting in primer, painting is on the list of chores lol. I fitted the payload bay that came with the kit with my camera wiring/battery and circuit board, so when I record a flight im usually going single deploy. I built an avbay as well for dd option and also did the nose cone with the bulkhead at the top of the shoulder for that configuration. What did you use as your ejection charge cups?

I recently built an eggtimer quark for my LOC Weasel that I converted to dual deploy and really like the simplicity of that altimiter. I want to try the quantum as well with all the wifi arming and programming options. So I think ill go with one of those eggtimer products on this rocket as well.

I was just sitting here looking at it and was going you know- if I cut the end off the nosecone - ;)
THANKS , you verified I hav not totally lost my mind.....

.
I will send you a couple pics-

All done - with the exception of wiring the switch and battery.
The cat says we are good to go - :p

Andy, I was wondering also how are you securing the nosecone? Are you going with shear pins, friction-fit or tape? Would be curious to hear how others have done their nose cone retention as well.

Looking sweet! What are you thoughts for motor choice on the first launch?

Hadnt decided yet- prob H-123 .
Gonna use sheer pins on the first flight. Then prob just tape after that .
Lots of little details yet.

Well , not being one to leave well enough alone- I really wasnt totally happy with the room I had for recovery , even after the N/C mod. So - why not, I added an entire upper tube , epoxied a coupler to the n/c shoulder. So It will drogue deploy below the switch band, then the main deploy will eject the n/c -coupler section. It gives me room for days for recovery gear and actually helped the cg/cp . Gotta paint it yet - but I kinda like it. Me and my stretched MadCows :p
