What did you do rocket wise today?

Had both robots running at the same time today. One upstairs, one in the basement. Freaked the dog out.

Had the Shapeoko cut a bulkhead for the WAC Corporal cone printed on the Prusa. There must be a Kickstarter for a CNC glue-and-paint machine, yes?

Prepped an AV bay for a rocket for LDRS. You know you're flying too big of a rocket when you use a full film canister to prep one AV bay...:eek::D

Nice paint.
LOC EZE? Mine is the 1.63" Park Flyer. I was looking for something to fly on smaller motors (cheaper)as my club's field won't handle high altitude. I also have the 29/24 adaptor so I can use E's and F's. Now I need a replacement for the chute release I lost. If I get a good day I might try sticking a small "H" in it. There's two part foam around the motor mount so I'm sure it will handle it
Yes, the LOC EZE... funny, I lost my chute release on the first launch of the first Louine, it went up and never came down... everyone lost sight, flown on a G79... never heard an ejection event, so it's deep in a horse pasture in western OK... since it was named for my wife, I had to rebuild it.

I watched a documentary on Evel Kneivel. I was wondering if any one has made a Skycycle, like what Evel used to try to jump the Snake River Canyon. I believe it was a steam powered rocket, shot from a rail. Would love to build and fly a replica.

Built an EggFinder usb receiver.
Just waiting on a RP-SMA antenna connector from Mouser.
Forgot to order it when I ordered the kit.

Clone of the Centuri model.
Semroc also had a larger "Groony" version called the Snake Jumper.
I think Eddie Braun's "Evel Spirit" that made the successful Snake River jump in 2016 is even better looking:

Designed by Scott Truax, son of the Knievel Sky Cycle designer.

Couple of things:
  • Some more masking on my Estes 1:100 Saturn V.
  • Prepping the Velociraptor for a flight in a couple of weeks. This will be my first HPR since the O-M flight earlier in the year. Time to burn some APCP. The hiatus is over :).

I am going to attempt to 3D print the thingie that I posted here yesterday. It's by far the biggest thing that I attempted to print so far.

Picked up a Mini Bertha and Citation Patriot, along with a few motors, all on sale at HL.

Thinking I might used the Mini Bertha and stuff in the parts pile to make a boosted Bertha. The Patriot will be stock except for a 24mm mount.

I bought a cheap but serviceable launch system - here it is laden with a mighty mosquito. It came with a cheap but serviceable rocket - one of those new all-plastic beginner models. I may assemble it for the experience and maybe give it a lift or two. We'll see.

Slotted a Pringles can. Broke my last three 1 mm endmills (one when I dropped it, two when they hit some tough seam in the can). Had to finish the operation using a 1/16" straight flute router bit -- didn't want to risk any of the more expensive small diameter endmills on this silliness. It worked, but I had to put a big bar clamp on the can to keep it from being dragged back and forth. I really need to come up with a better work-holding strategy for this.

The intent was for this to be light enough to go on a C-11, but sturdy enough for a composite F. It will depend on the final weight all glued together, but I am starting to have doubts.

I built an Eggfinder TX this morning before work. I don't think my old eyes and hands want to try anything smaller than 0805 size SMT components. Tested it this afternoon, with the receiver indoors in my barn and the TX on an ATV, it maintains connection to about 1100' with the ATV riding thru the woods, and still receives some packets out to about 1800'. I'm sure the range will be completely adequate in open field conditions.

Finished building the Estes Alpha III rocket that came with the launcher I purchased. Apart from lining up the !#@&$#@ stickers, it wasn't too challenging, but I need the practice anyway. Now I know what "beginner" means in 2019. I will admit that it was fun nonetheless. I'm not sure if I'll actually fly it or not.

Also glued some launch lugs on an "intermediate" kit. Yes, I'm really easing back into this hobby, maybe a little too slowly? I've finished 2 Mosquitoes (without finishing) and now an Alpha III. I did join my local launch club so I hope to get some sky soon.

Worked on the altimeter bay for the Nuclear Sledgehammer today, in the home stretch so to speak. Refitted one of the Alt Bays from a RRC2 Extreme 25k version C to a RRC3 Extreme. The RRC3 wasn't testing correctly for a bit until I put it on the computer and reset to defaults, after that it passed the vacumm chamber tests every time showing flights to 39k, not that the NS will ever even get close to 10k on a 75mm that will fit in it.

I found HL had sale too. All their rocket stuff! I stocked up on engines. Also, I have the Big Bertha from 20 years ago. I think it was called Bertha II.

Printed out all the components to my fully 3D printed rocket. Hoping to test it out in the next few weeks.

I'm currently working on painting my Saturn V. I love building but I hate painting!
