There's already "techniques". Not sure we need more specificity.

I think its great. But that's because I'm into nice finishes and custom colors and effects. I also have tons of automotive paint experience and materials/processes I work with.

I wouldn't want to see it clouded with "filling spirals" or "fillets with titebond" or "pulling fillets with PL 4500 or RP".

It would need to be narrowed down to actual body work. Like primers, bondo, air brushing, rattle cans, automotive paints, spray guns, clear coats, polishing, wet sanding, surface prep, metallics, candies, flakes, pearls, intercoats, createx, stencils, designs, taping, specialty coatings, effects, fixing runs or drips, sanding grits, etc...
That's just my opinion though...I'd more than likely contribute a lot to that section.

It's already covered under 'Techniques'. Maybe the name of the sub-forum needs changed to "Building and finishing techniques" or "Techniques: Building and finishing".

Paint and paint prep is A WHOLE WEB BOARD in and of itself, just look at the car paint web boards. You think that WE have sub-topics, they have one for each and every primer/filler/paint/reducer/additive/flake/etc you can imagine! If someone wants that type of info, they really need to go to that type of in depth resource to get the proper information.

While many of us aspire to the level of Nathans work, judging from the paint threads and Gallery shots, most rocketeers seem to hover comfortably in the "Just gimmie a can of (popular paint brand of the week that's on sale/I saw in another thread/I like best/hasn't screwed up for me yet) and let me paint" level and the $$ investment and learning curve for spray gear are something that most aren't up for. There are several threads each year on spray gear/paint prep/automotive paints/polishing anyway. If it was more of a thing, there would be more threads.

Either way, there are STILL going to be 523187346198376490871034895709824382094865720947629085670198375434652462 x 10 (nth power) "Why did my (insert paint brand of the week) wrinkle/crack/flake off?" threads every week.

Not that the search feature is very friendly in this iteration of the software, as no one really reads the threads stickies often, either.

What about thread tags? Like a 'building' tag or a 'finishing' tag, so folks can distinguish between which interest them?

The problem with tags is that no one uses them, present company included. In order to make tags useful, there would need to be enforcement of use in the software, which is not IMHO very likely or even desirable.

I would generally prefer not to see another subforum created here when there's already one that works fine for it, *but* given the enduring popularity of this topic I wouldn't be too bothered by it either. There will still be plenty of grey area created between Techniques and Finishing forums, though.

Answer me this: in what practical sense is there an advantage to separating Finishing threads out from the rest of Techniques threads. Is finishing a "worthy" subject area? Sure. But in what way are we (or some of us) better off by separating it?

Do you think from my wording that I don't see a reason? You're right, I don't, but I'm open to being wrong. I'm asking this as a genuine question, not a challenge.
