Have you ever built one of his kits? It says the fairings are gone and the glass fins. Pic still shows fairings. Have you seen one or do you know what is done differently? Thanks.

The copy is referring to the Zooch kit as compared to the old Estes semi scale Sat. V. The Estes used clear plastic fins for stability, while the Zooch kit uses slightly larger than scale balsa fins and nose weight for stability. The Estes fairings were formed from cardstock, IIRC, but the Zooch kit fairings are cut from a cardboard tube. Also the Estes kit did not have engine bell nozzles, while the Zooch version has permanently attached nozzles that remain on in flight. Here are the plans for the old Estes kit for comparison:https://www.spacemodeling.org/jimz/est1239.htm
The term "improved version" means improved from the original Zooch kit, since production was taken over by erockets.
Anyway, here's a pic of the original Zooch kit next to an Estes semi scale clone. The clone has been slightly modified with a slip on fin can instead of permanently glued TTW fins. Also I screwed up the mid wrap on the Zooch kit so I ordered extra wraps for a redo:

Hope this helps!

Just a heads up, the Zooch kit is somewhat smaller than the RTF 1/200 Estes Sat V. And more challenging to build. But a lot of fun. Enjoy.

The Zooch kits are fun builder kits, glad to see the Saturn V, or any of them really, back in stock. Lots of cardstock and dowel magic for those nozzles and towers and tank protuberances. Here are my Zooch Saturns in between the Estes 1/200 RTF SV and the Mercury Redstone for comparison. (the Saturn 1B nose is a little off kilter as it was leaned against the wall, not really that crooked) The lighter Zooch cardboard models really scream on a C6-3.

I want one but I spent too much on motor clearance at Hobby Lobby. I do miss the Zooch kits I only have the shuttle and the Saturn 1b wish I'd had gotten more before he closed up.
