So like a lot of other people who have the Saturn V they are looking to build/complete them for the up coming anniversary. And Estes has the newest re-release, which I might get and put in the closet where I had left this one.

Me, well I think I got this kit in late 2010 (`DOH) and had started it then, did up to the body wrap and such. Then let it be in the closet with the loose parts in the box until just a few days ago. I had an old invoice for the Moldin' Oldies SRMO and Faring set dated January 12, 2011 from Sirius Rocketry. That's how I know about how long ago I got it, I am guessing from hobbylinc and started working on it. At the time of getting this kit, I knew I was going to five motor cluster it with nozzles so I wanted to beef it up a bit. D12 and 4x C6 was the original plan.
So from back then to now there was some minor parts of the wrap that needed to be put back. I remember I used small dabs of super glue in some spots and spray adhesive when I first started working on it. The tube was left standing up in a closet, so no oval-ling.

I thinks it's time to finish the build and fly it. RIGHT????

Here is test fitting and checking all the wraps and doing very light amount of 5 min epoxy to get them to sit with rubber bands, and doing more of the build steps, didn't even have the chute hook or lugs on. There was some yellowing on the plastic wrap and a little bit of dust.

Final prime done, used a whole can of high build primer in 4 stages with 400 grit and the last was 600 grit. No blemishes or tube seams left.

Business end glued up and painted. Flying with the nozzles on. I will trim the motor tubes (I just don't know what length I want them yet). I think the CRs are from BMS back in 2010.

Final white gloss paint. There are three coats sanded with 600 grit in between each.

And here she is letting the paint cure/dry on the patio for a couple of days before going forward. Debating if I want to mask and spray paint black/silver or use Testors enamel bottles and brush on with masking for edges only. I have both options in house.

My chutes are all upgraded thin mill nylon from Top Flight (again from back in late 2010), still in the box. I will have to do some research on CP/CG before flying with everything in picture.

I just hope I don't wait another ~9 years to work on it more.

Looks great. You will have to add a considerable amount of nose weight wit the cluster and moving the engines back.

Very nice. I sure would like to know how it ends up flying. Most kits with cluster mounts have the motors nearly touching each other so I wondering about having them apart. If it flies well, you seem to have the ideal solution combining function and looks with how you kept the nozzles on there.

Do the ejection charges go off at different times ? Looks awesome !

Ya that motor mount is nice. Is it possible to squeeze a single 29mm motor in the center nozzle?

I would be worried about the kind of heat load a 29mm might generate in the center of four burning engines and what it might do to a plastic engine bell/shroud. Going with a paper based bell for the center might not be a bad alternative (i.e. adapt one from a paper model).

I'll be interested to see how much nose weight you'll need. I built mine with a tight cluster farther forward, without the nozzles, and nose weight pushed to 19oz w/o motors. Also needed to spread the weight out in the top section, so it would still come down horizontal. It does fly great on 5 motors! I will try to build with nozzles next time. Wish someone still made those style 5 motor cluster CRs.
