Hello all,
I am in the process of building a model of "Friede" from the Fritz Lang 1929 movie "Woman in the Moon". Does anyone know who sells the foils that some rocket builders are using on their projects?

Thanks!

Trim monocote (adhesive backed) comes in chrome, aluminum, and gold, as well as solid and checkerboard color patterns.

Thanks all for the responses. I have a vague recollection of a thin fiber(paper?) backed aluminum. It wasn't Monocote or the Bare Metal foil product. I'm also getting the dispute about what was used on the original miniature in the movie. Looks like it was white and black, not bare metal or aluminum paint, a finish popular in the late 20's through the beginning of WW2.

Most of the big hardware outfits sell adhesive-backed aluminum foil tape in the AC/heating department. It is used for sealing HVAC ducts. Some auto parts places have it too. It is paper backed like you describe. The paper backing is peeled away to expose the adhesive.

This stuff is great for bare metal finishes since it is, after all, bare metal! It is a bit thicker than kitchen aluminum foil, but thin enough to conform to whatever detail may be underneath. It can even be worked around a 3-D curve like a nose cone if you are careful. You can use bits of small aluminum or brass tube to emboss screw or rivet heads into the foil for scale-like details. I have a few different rolls of the stuff because different brands have different finishes. Some border on being polished, some raw aluminum and other have a brushed look.

Here are a couple of examples:

Really cheap stuff is the Al tape used for hot air dryer ducts available in most hardware stores. I use that sparingly for simple metallic bands on some rockets.

Trim monokote metallic is the best looking. It is the peel and stick variety, no heat shrink required.

Bare metal foil is for more detailed work on plastic model details, it creases very easily as it is a thin foil. Very hard to peel from the paper backing without creasing it.
