I mean, CG and CP both change as soon as the wind or fire touches it

And the equations for calcing CP particularly are full of reasonable assumptions that apply most correctly to things that are round and 10x as long as wide...

So yeah, everything we fly has +-, just most manufacturers don't estimate it for us. Would it be better if they just gave us one value?

Slap some paint on that b@#%$* and get flying!!!
It loves 54/426 motors.

Adrian,

My last few have followed that path for sure. This one is too cool for school and I kinda want to make it special. The build turned out better than I hoped. It's light for it's size although I don't know the number. This all wood glue monster deserves to look good. So good it's gonna get unless I screw something up of course.

Fair enough. I'll quit pestering you. For now... ;)

What ever pestering you did worked. I got a couple coats of white on today. Looks decent but the white showed some serious errors that I didn't catch with the primer. I'll get there sooner or later.

So, I finally got the replacement finished.
Presenting Goblin 2.0...View attachment 381783

Since I painted the nosecone wrong, I decided to flip the color scheme. It’s not perfect, but you won’t be able to tell from the high power pads... [emoji12][emoji12]

Toaster not for flight use...:p:p
Oh, forgot to add, weight was exactly 3 lbs on the dot. Used a flanged Aeropack retainer this time too. Once again, all Titebond III. Oh, and inside, a shiny new Top Flight pink and black 36" chute with spill hole.:cool:

yeah, pretty awesome!

I guess, painting it mostly black will absorb solar energy, therefore eating eh air inside it slightly, which will vent, making it a little liter than it should be, which will mean a few extra feet in altitude. good plan!! :D :D

That looks awesome Adrian. I am still being lazy with mine. It's solid white now and I have a rough idea what I want to do with it. I want to dust of my airgun and give it several coats of Auto Air, put a fade and a pearl on then top it off with a semi-pro level clear. Trouble is if it takes some hangar rash or flight damage, it will be difficult to repair. If I chince out a put a second color of Rustoleum, touching up flight damage would be easy. I am in a holding pattern, help hostage by my own indecision.

I used my mark one eyeball to line my fins up. Looks straight to me. I'm finished with the fin can and I'll be gluing it into the body tube today.[b/]

A question for you guys who are building the fin can outside the rocket, how do you plan to glue the middle centering ring inside the body tube?
I should have glued the middle and top rings to the motor mount and left the bottom ring loose, but I glued all three to the motor mount.
Now what?

I picked up an example of Estes' original Goblin. This was one of the first rockets I built as a kit, and I thought it would be cool to have one to put next to my 4 inch one. I've got it painted and ready for decals:

It's really not that big of a deal if you glue middle CR. Glue Bottom and top CRs plus fin fillets will be more than enough.

That is what I use. A Kevlar Loop. But I drew a little bigger holes so it is easier to fish it through both sides. But you could take the Kevlar string a coat hanger and push it through both holes

I cut the base off and build a track av bay. Never trust the loop on a rocket that big.

I've been thinking about cutting the base off and putting in a bulkhead with an I bolt, but am concerned about epoxy not sticking to the plastic nose cone. I'd like to use the cone for a tracker av bay at some point also.
