I am working on a card stock transition for a tail cone and wanted to know what is the best
way to seal the 110# card stock before prime and paint

I use a cotton swab to apply a layer of thin CA, then sand smooth.

However, you don't *need* to do anything. It'll paint just fine "raw".

After the transition is glued in place and dry I like to coat them in super thin CA then sand smooth with 220 grit.

To ensure it's smooth, after sealing with CA, you can try to paint the part with a Sharpie, and sand until the Sharpie is completely removed. However, care has to be taken to not damage the body tube. If you don't want to use the Sharpie, you have to sand until all the glossy spots are gone.

That works, but I am not a fan. Makes a big mess of sanded Sharpie dust. I find I can usually just judge progress with my fingers.

You could use sanding sealer, if you wanted, or just go with the primer and paint. Some Card stock models with artwork on them I just finish with clear gloss or satin right on top of the cardstock.

Probably the best suggestion you could get is to practice what you are trying to do with some scraps before you commit to doing with your final model.

I use titebond glue.
if there body work to be done I use the white Tamaya putty after priming.
After sanding the putty I re-prime.

Looking at your design (Which is quite cool, by the way) I would go with the ultra-thin CA method. It really hardens up the card stock and will make it a much better base for mounting the fins, or much easier to cut if you are doing fin slots.

As soon as I start the build I will post online . The first time I will be using an Estes BT-55 airframe
and as a single stage . Later down the road I may go to a 4" diameter and convert to a 2 stage version
