Hello

I hope to switch from 9V batteries to lipo to power my altimeters. I have purchased 500mah 2S batteries. My question is about connecting these to the battery terminals on the altimeters. Is there a female adapter or a connector that has a + & - lead leaving it? It looks like the Male plug on the battery i20190611_083227.jpg

I standarize all my rocket connections including the one to the charger to JST male and female. Here is a link to them on amazon

I use extreme caution when changing out these connectors. The thing you DO NOT want to do with LIPO batteries is create a dead short - or touch the positive and the negative terminals/wires EVER. This battery chemistry has basically zero internal resistance meaning it can fry in a heartbeat. LIPO battery fires are REALLY bad so be careful. Always prepare, cut, solder, and heat shrink one side at a time...seriously. The type you currently have, the yellow, is very common in quadcopters using 3S and 4S batteries and are best if you need 'mo power. The JST linked have 22ga wire that serve 1S and 2S batteries well.

You can buy the XT connectors. I really like them for larger rockets but they are “larger”.

Most 2S LiPo batteries under 1,000 mAH come with the red JST connectors, and an XH balancing connector. Above 1,000 mAH, you'll probably see an XT60 connector... your best bet is to remove it and replace it with a JST "pigtail". Make sure you get the polarity right, or bad things will happen...

I generally use the balancing connector for connection to the electronics. The smaller batteries I normally purchase (120/180mAh) can usually be purchased without the red JST, and with only the white XH-series JST. If they do come with the red JST I usually just cable-tie it out of the way somewhere, to stop it flapping around.

Polarity wrong equals “warm, smoking battery and maybe a fire”.

Don't know why I never considered cutting and swapping the connectors. That open up a LOT of new possibilities for batteries. Thanks!!

Make sure you check polarity on any jst connectors you buy. It's surprisingly common for them to be reversed color wise.
