In the centering rings (CR), cut a very small notch on the inside diameter. Then glue them in place on the motor tube, with the notches aligned. Fish a straw between the two notches, and glue in place. Then using some Kevlar line, fish it inside the straw, and tie a loop with a slip knot on the end that will be on the bottom, and wrap it around the motor tube. You then install your mount normally (making sure to keep the kevlar line out of the way). Tie your shock cord of choice to the top end of the kevlar.

So I can’t use Kevlar up to the cone? Was looking to cut cone 1/8 ply bulkhead and tie. I have never used the nomex madcow reusable wadding I’m guessing that is tied to the Kevlar also the. I burrito loosely the chute in it. Stuff into nosecone and loose for the cone on rocket? Trying to avoid the pitfalls.

If you want to use Kevlar all the way to the nosecone... Go For It! Personally, I kinda like the rubber shock cords... Knowing my history of trees, having a shock cord that can easily fail when left to the elements is kinda a good thing.
 
As a rule of thumb it's better to avoid putting the parachute in the nose cone if you can.

With the 'chute inside the nose cone, you're counting on the cone's inertia to keep it moving away from the body, and the shock cord to pull the 'chute out. With a light cone this doesn't always work.

With the 'chute in the body tube, you're using the ejection charge to push it out, along with pushing the cone off. It's more reliable to push the 'chute out than to push it.

Sometime there isn't room outside of the nose, and the 'chute in the nose usually works alright; still, better avoid it when you can.
 
Just to update the thread .... It turns out the 'print your own waterslide decals' really don't work well against dark backgrounds just as I suspected. They were that poor it was almost impossible to see them so I am about to place an order with Stickershock for the real McCoy.

I don't think that this would be a parachute that is stuffed deep inside the nosecone. It would only be inside the area between the bottom of the shoulder and the the bottom of the bulkhead. That said, a longer shock cord with the parachute tied at a point that would pull the chute loose when fully extended and long enough to keep the nosecone far enough away to keep it from banging into the body tube would be in order.

Also stuff the shock cord into the nose first that prevents the chute getting stucknin the nose for some reason.
 
Well here she is almost complete, just clear coat to finish it off. I made a bit of a mistake on the scaling of the decals I had made and they ended up being a bit too small but luckily I ordered 8 full sets so I had some spare to make it work.

Did you say... eight full sets of decals???

Yep. I found a vinyl printing place this side of the pond that had really good reviews but they had a minimum order quantity. The quality of the vinyl is superb too, it's pretty thin not like a regular 'sticker' type vinyl.

I plan to do my first Big Daddy in the retro style. I had looked at Stickershock’s decals for it but couldn’t justify the price being more than I paid for the kit. Luckily someone is sending me some original sticker decals for it.
 
I would have liked to have supported stickershock too but given shipping costs to the UK I could almost buy two kits for the order cost.

I'd love a set of those... If you could get them to eRockets, he could ship them to me with my annual crate. ;)
 
Nice build so far have you sent them skyward? My 2nd gen Big Daddy hade a fail to eject chute from a motor that was a tad too small and nosed in the neighbors yard and broke one of the fins. I am in the process (right now, waiting on glue to dry) of repairing that fin and I still have the original "Krylon Pumpkin Orange" so hopefully tomorrow I can apply the paint and give it a go. We got some rain in PA right now........I have some 18mm reloads D13-4W and D24-4TJust for it. I have to plug in the motors into Open Rocket for the D13-4W worried about that 4sec delay being too long for the D13.

Ok ran the motors in Open Rocket and I put C6-3 in there for S&G's. I included all the recommended motors and the RMS motors I have and they all look good and the CP and CG are behaving. I included some photos of the repairs so far.Bigdaddy.jpg
