Pecos Hank is a real pro who over 10 years has only gotten himself in that kind of situation twice from what I've seen. He's usually very cautious and one can see in his videos chasers much closer to a tornado, too close. He has a video that I can't find right now where he discusses highly technical meteorological subjects about tornado formation with some professor or researcher who praised him because he uses Hank's videos and compares them with his computer models. He is also working directly with a professional researcher this season according to another video which, although he didn't say so in this video, MIGHT be the reason he got unusually close this time.
