Launched my 4” fiberglass DX3 XL today on an M1350W. Flawless launch and recovery.

50’ Rocketman extreme streamer for the drogue, 9’ Iris parachute for main. Full-color wrap of my own design, done by Mark at Stickershock23. Custom recovery harnesses by Mike at MAC Performance. Thanks to Bill at Balsamachining for getting the M1350 motor.

Thanks to my L3CC, Denzil Burnam for his help and guidance throughout. Thanks to John DeMar for helping to arrange everything and the loan of the tracker. Thanks also to the many TRF-ers sharing their knowledge — it would have been much harder without you.

Apogee of 13,500, Mach 1.1

It was a perfect day all around. Weather, setup, launch, and recovery. The camaraderie of rocket geeks. And a free lunch courtesy of the Bill. Best L3 flight I've seen in a long time.

A look at the recovery site, zoom in to see Bill and Denzil on their way back...

Congradulations! Well done. Love the build.

Congratulations! From that chart it looks like you went at least 1400 fps, which would be about mach 1.3

Hi Nathan,
I saw the same thing (and got about the same velocity spike on the RRC3). But, when you do a smoothed velocity plot it maxes out at just over 1200 fps (Mach 1.1).
The OpenRocket simulations showed a project apogee of 12914' and max velocity of 1179 fps (Mach 1.08). Actual apogee (average of the CF and RRC3) was 13532', within 5% of the prediction.
I know that OR isn't the best when you are talking supersonic, but given all that I was inclined to go with a more conservative velocity claim.
But I will take Mach 1.3! LOL.

Congrats on the successful level 3 Bill..
Great flight man..
