Is there a reference somewhere that shows suggested required diameter and length in regard to packed chute sizes?

Thanks.

Rocketman provides this for all their chutes. Fruity does, too, I think. Never seen that for smaller chute companies.

Most of the time you will find what volume is needed by figuring out what pack density you are comfortable packing the chute at. For most flyers it is .20oz/in^3. Packing at .30oz/in^3 is close to the limit of hand packing. All you need to do is divide your chute's weight by the pack density and you'll get your volume. You already have the compartment dimensions so calculate the volume and see if the chute will fit. Different vendor had different volume recommendation but a lot of hitting the recommended volume is on the user so practice packing and get good at it if you want to pack parachutes into small volumes.

Once I pack a chute and am happy with the dimensions that I get, I make up a roll from an old t-shirt and duct tape. I use that for ground ejection charge testing and any further "fit" testing for subsequent builds.

I often use this chart for a quick general reference: https://publicmissiles.com/images/chutepackingrequirements.pdf

Here's a jpg of quick general reference Banzai88 linked to above.

This chart appears to use a Packing Density < 0.10 oz/cu-in, which is pretty loose.

SkyAngle chutes has a table but only for their chutes.

Yup, usually represents a 'worst case scenario', especially for distracted days at the field, and newbies not used to packing tightly......which makes it a perfect general planning guide.

Comparing the two charts... For a given chute size SkyAngle is about twice the packed length of PML.

Both are made from 1.9 oz fabric..
