Has anyone ever tried using velcro one way or another in their kits? At first, I thought it might be an easy way to mount an altimeter, so I can quickly move it from one rocket to another on launch day, but I'm having doubts, because I really don't know many g-forces it can take.

As I recall, velcro was developed during, by, or for the space programs, so I'm thinking it must be good for something in model rocketry as well. Is it?

I haven't used it in rocketry, but I use it all the time to manage cable. It's incredibly strong when you wrap it all the way around itself.

The absolute LAST place that I would use it in rocketry is to secure down my flight computer. It ages poorly with use, and under G load during flight and recovery, the computer is the only thing making safety happen by triggering the deployment charges.

If it were to break loose and flop around....or the battery were to come loose and disconnect (I've seen both happen).......well, that's a recipe for a mishap that's avoidable with $3 worth of mounting hardware.

It would be a good way to absorb the shock of recovery.

RC plane fliers use it to secure lipo batteries.
RC plane fliers aren't going from zero to 300+ miles per hour in under 1 second either [emoji3]. If a batter is kept from eing able to move forward, backwards, and side to side velcro wrapped fully around the battery and sled would probably keep the battery secure (I prefer zip ties).

velcro AND zip ties.. one on rocket at last..

on a Lipo battery..

Meh.. build a wood ledge for a better / positive acceleration brake..
