Well, its that time of year when I usually launch down to the corn fields. Also that time when me and my old buddy have Birthdays. Mine is the 31st (60) and Kodiac was the 30th. Doing some reminiscing and looking thru old threads. Man I miss my buddy. We need to get a dog bad. I don't believe Ive even launched a rocket down the fields since Kodiac passed. Theres been other reasons too, kodiac xtf.jpg kodiac xtf.jpg but whatever. I told the wife as soon as mud season is over, its time to get a another dog. We have been long enough without one.

Man's best friend? Nope... They're family!!!

I'm thinking about getting a dog. I'm sure that walking a dog would be a good thing for me. So, long as I don't get a pup that likes to chew things.

Man, that’s a great looking pup. We had a yellow one, looked almost just like yours. We had her 12 years, it was a tough loss. I feel for you. Yes they become family undoubtedly. Sad deal!

Yes he was a great looking lab. He ran 95-100 lbs in good shape. Rugged boy. We named him after the Kodiak bear and he lived up to the name. The wife wants a smaller one this time around. IDK, Ill go with a smaller dog, but not a mini toy thing. I said, if its not bid enough to use as a pillow, it aint a dog LOL. We do want one that sheds less for sure. I don't miss the fur all over the place. No matter how much you washed & brushed him and vacuumed the house, there was always fur around. Looking at getting a recue also. We don't want to go thru the puppy stage again either. After Kodiac passed, I went and did new rugs and wood floors thru the house. Don't need puppy poop and pee .

Rescues are a great option. We had a rescue greyhound a while back. He was a super sweet but not too smart couch potato. Probably wouldn't be a great rocket hunter, either. On the plus side, he could hit about 35 going flat out!

I never wanted a small dog. We had a black lab and my wife wanted a friend for him, she picked a Pomeranian, well he picked me ended up being my dog, best little buddy I ever had.
Pic. Of the little woman her pitbull lab mix and my dog in flagstaff koa last year.

As the keeper of a small 6.8 pound dog with a 100lb attitude, I can say for a fact that small dogs are very special. Small dogs equal small poop. The food bill is also minimal. Another fun benefit of having a cute small dog is watching people turn into 3rd graders when they meet him. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Oh, I would take to and love any dog we get. And I agree, small dog, small poop and food bills. Every spring it was go out and clean up all the landmines. No room in the truck for the wife with Kodiac in there too. He did not like her in "HIS" truck. lol.

Kodiac was an awesome rocket buddy. Don't ask me how, but he would keep is eyes on the rocket and track in all the way to landing. No lie, many times he saved me from hunting all over looking for a rocket. He was on it !!!
Grayhounds are cool goobers .LOL>.

rescues are a great way to go. one thing to remember with them- they can require a bit of an adjustment period. they may seem a little crazy when first getting their new home but they typically adjust.
wait until mud season is over???? its gonna be here again before ya know it sooooooo...;)

I have a half black-lab/half black German Shepherd. He loves to go on walks. Miles and miles (literally) every day.

We got him from a rescue org.

That is him, and the odd thing is the description mentioned licking, but he has never licked and we've had him about 10 years now (he is about 12 and still going strong).
He is a registered Therapy Dog and has his own photo ID and parking pass at a large local hospital.

OMG that is hysterical. I love that it apparently never occurs to the dog to drop the crazy fire stick in it's mouth. :D
That GIF has been around for about 20 years. Sadly, that pooch has long since departed to be with his maker. I hope he had a good life. He's famous and never even knew it.

That clip tells you everything you need to know about dachshunds. That's what you get when you breed a dog to go after badgers in their dens. I love how the dog stops to look after every shot of the Roman candle.
my lil one(doxie/pomeranian mix) loves a motorcycle ride.doesnt like that i dont stop at ever tree,though.pete1.jpg
doxies are great at diggin for moles. love watchin my lil buddy goin bonkers tryin to get one. and when he does- hes so proud !pete.jpg

Well, today I was doing my walk around Walmart ( I go there for exercise in the winter) and I gets a message from my niece. She ask for my new phone number and said she needed to call and talk with me. I told her I was shopping and Ill be home in an hour. I also said if its an emergency to call me asap. She text that it was kinda but it could wait. I text back and said to call me NOW.
Well, Well, she ask me if I could adopt her dog. She had given it to a friend 4 yrs ago cuz she had to move and could not keep the dog.. The new people as I said are her friends and she got to see the dog all the time.
Turns out the daughter of the guy that took it is going to college and the guy just had a neck operation and is in bad shape and cant take care of the dog. So, long short, I said Ill give it a try.
So, Im getting a dog. "Ruby" is her name. Sometime next week. 9yrs old pure Pitbull. The last dog I adopted was my ex wife's and that dog was a Rottweiler.
And she (dog) turned out to be the sweetest girl. So, kinda a rescue cuz she had no one else to turn to.

218lbs ??? Good god! How much does he eat in a week? He even looks slim. We had neighbors who had an Alaskan Malamute that was really obese. She was almost as wide as she was long... Poor dog.

Hey eats 12 oz of boneless chicken and 3 cups of kibble. He has a gluten allergy and the chicken is half the cost of his food that he does not like. His shoulders are 39 inches off the ground when he's standing on all 4.

That's a great story! I lost my dearest buddy "Wiley" -- a schnoodle (schnauzer-poodle mix) 14 months ago. He was 15 years and 2 months old and weighed 24 pounds. Left a huge hole in my heart that will never be filled.
We did get another schnoodle around Labor Day last year. Missed AirFest to go get him. I had totally forgotten how much energy puppies have, and also how they get into EVERYTHING! He keeps us laughing and VERY busy.

So glad you have a new buddy!
