Went out to grab the paper this morning (yeah, I'm old school and still read a physical newspaper) and noticed it was a bit chilly. Stay warm at the launch today my friends!

Heavy rain yesterday but a sunny forecast is in the works through Saturday. Maybe we get to fly?

Looks like Saturday is a go, although mud boots might be in order. It will be a game day decision for us.

Yikes! If it's that muddy I'll be parking by the gate and hoofing it in like the locals. See what I did there?

Perhaps we should Mooooo've on here. Weather should be good for the up parts. Recovery down range could be, uh, challenging.
Chas

How'd the launch go yesterday? Weather was nice although my allergies disagree.

A pretty exceptional day, especially considering it could have been a wash-out. The “highs” were really high... the UTA AreoMavs flew their Spaceport America project over mile up with an L. The “lows” were ... that’s Pokerjones’ story to tell.
Over 200 flights.

No, not the thumper award, it was the big splash award. Hit the dead center of the damn pond with the upper stage on my BBX/Terrier.

I went back out to Gunter today hoping it was still afloat and with a well placed 300' cast using a #8 treble hook recovered it mostly unharmed. Altimeter in the ebay looks to be fried (still drying) but the tele-gps in the NC seems to be working fine. Motor case, chutes and rocket as whole are in good shape.

Poker, you and that pond seem to have a thing. Good to hear most everything survived. What was the final word on your Phoenix from last years splash?

Hopefully that was my last "splash down" recovery. The Phoenix is still flyable. Lost one of the altimeters to water damage and the ebay is permanently attached (stuck) to the payload tube, other than that no real damage.

I saw that happen twice at Tampa Tripoli in Jan. with a pond only 100 yds away. Good that you got everything back Jeff.

So Glad Jeff got it back. It was an impressive flight. Here are my images from the launch.

I apologize if this kind of post is inappropriate for this thread, but I'm trying to see if anyone from the DFW area is attending the QCRS launch, in Illinois, at the end of May. There is a gentleman in Illinois with a rocket I'm trying to purchase, but he's hesitant to risk damage by shipping it. Worst case scenario I have to wait until LDRS later this year. Please let me know.

Thank you fellow Texans,
Michael P.

Anyone been to the Indy race at Texas Motor Speedway the last few years? It's been probably 20 years for me but at that time season ticket holders would hole up near the entry and scalp their own tickets for a pretty hefty discount off face value. I surmise that things have changed a little since then though :). So my question, any recommendations on buying tickets? Should we just got the safe route and buy them on Ticket Master? I think they're pretty easy to come by elsewhere but buying counterfeits would be my concern. Thanks in advance!

The boys and I went last year. We just bought normally, but there were a lot of extra seats. I wasn't looking, but I suspect there were plenty of tickets available on site.

Thanks Chris. Where did you sit. Any recommendations?

We sat a little before the front stretch bend. There is a price break on tickets around row 10, so we bought on the cheapo side of that break. There were so many empty seats that we just moved to optimal viewing within our section after the race started.

A shout out to all the tireless DARS team members for conducting a great launch Saturday under hot, humid and windy conditions. The high hay furrows made for some difficult "over yonder" long walk a bouts. Also want to congratulate my son Ryan, on passing L2 test and cert flight ... WTG Ryan!
