Not to rain on Tom's parade , Congrats btw.
I also got my L-1 this weekend @ Varn Ranch. A big shout out to the Tripoli Tampa Crew and of course Rick Waters for all your help. It was my 2nd attempt, as sadly , my 38mm Calisto used for my first attempt has yet to be found, we got a wicked bad thermal and last I saw it - it was headed S/W vertically at about 1500ft till we couldnt see it anymore - on a 24 inch chute
So , for my 2nd attempt I decided it a good idea to fly the field this time -(Low ceiling cloudy day)
Smarter not harder , right ? Used a rebuilt Phantom 4000 on a 3gr 29mm CTI H90 . No exact altitude as I popped at the top without even using the C/R But roughly 1600ft and recovered without incident -
