I am looking for scale plans for the RIM-2D Terrier Missile made by Convair for the US Navy. I have some basic dimensions but no drawings or plans. It is a two stage, sea launched, nuke capable surface to air missile. It seems there was a link to a set that no longer exists. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Contact Ez2cDave here on TRF......

or odds are good he will see this thread and respond....

10...9...8...7...6.....

Thanks Mike, it's a start, but the 2D has nike-like fins on the booster, and the 2nd stage looks a lot like a Standard ARM.
Thanks Rich, I would if I knew how to do that. (I'm pretty remedial WRT operations on the forum)

Dave,

Thank you so much, the article in the newsletter gives me everything I was looking for. What an amazing newsletter. I read it front to back! Is this the club you fly with?

Mike,

Glad to be able to help . . .

That article was done by Evan "Buzz" Nau . . . That club is the one he flies with in Jackson, Michigan.

When I lived in South Florida, I flew with FSA/TWP ( Florida Spacemodeling Association / Tripoli West Palm ).
I am getting ready to join Tripoli East NC, next month.

Is Dave Popkin still around? I think he used to fly with TWP back in the day. When I can, I usually fly with ICBM in Camden, SC, but I also belong to SoAR which is a local NAR section.
Thanks again for the help, It'll prolly be a while before I can get it built, I am currently finishing a Sparrow/HV-Arcus, that I hope to fly at Camden this summer.

-Mike

PS. I graduated from high school in Havelock, NC, near New Bern, my Dad was in the Navy and ran the NARF at Cherry Point.

I have not heard anything from David Popkin since the mid- 1990's . . . He was the prefect of TWP at that time.

You might try contacting Rick Boyette ( email me for contact info ) . . . [email protected]

There are some videos from about 5 years ago . . .

The nuclear version has a longer ogive nosecone than the secant ogive on this version, but this is what I've got. At least it's close to what you're looking for.Terrier HTR 25.GIF

Thanks to you all. This will be a fine subject. Dave had sent me the plans for the 2D, and now with plans for the HTR, I can have my choice.
I think either would be good subjects to build and fly, my Dad was in the Navy so I remember seeing these on ships at Mayport when I was a kid.
I favor the versions where the sustainer resembles the Standard Arm, which came later, and the Nike-like fins on the booster, rather than the early version with the wings in the middle.
Somewhere there is a picture of one being fired off the aft deck of the Connie (CVA-64), on which Dad was a member of the original crew.

I am starting to design and subsequently build a BlackBrant XI-A which uses a Terrier Mk-70 as the 2nd stage. What is the difference between the Mk 70 and the Mk- 12?

Thanks!

about 58?

edit: I thought it was funny.....

In seriousness, the Terrier-Improved Orion has both the mk12 and mk70 as options so you should be able to find the differences between those.

Years ago "The Launch Pad" (TLP) sold a plan pack for the two-stage Standard Missile. Actually, the builder could buy the second stage standard missile from TLP and then custom build the first stage. The second stage used regular body tubes and parts, so in the sense the second stage was a straight forward build. The hard part was that TLP plan pack required the builder to make custom body tubes for the first stage and hand crafted parts for the inter-stage connection and first stage parachute compartment.

According to designation-systems.net "...MK 70 booster (regrained MK 12), which almost doubled the range... " and "The MK 70 is externally identical to the older MK 12 booster ..."

I built this 1:6.5 scale. It’s -2C.
