What did you do rocket wise today?

Thank you, I was using Araldite k3600 and will give it a post cure later today. There isn’t a fibreglass layer but that’s something I could experiment with later if you think it’s worth it.

I'm not advocating for a veil layer, just curious. I'm not one to give advice on this subject as I make CF tubes by calling Wildman. I admire the art of those with the patience and skill to do it themselves.

Finished up the avbay for a 6" rocket we got in Jim Rossen's estate sale. All up it's about 9 ft. tall and weighs in at 33 lbs. It has a 75mm MMT that we added a flanged Aeropac retainer to, and the avbay has a Stratologger and an RRC-3 switched with Eggtimer WiFi switches. Did the ejection charge tests yesterday, and re-programmed the altimeters this morning.
It finally got warm enough to do some painting, so I sprayed Sharon's 4" DX-3 with gloss white Rusto acrylic enamel, then sprayed my X-Celerator fins with orange Rusto acrylic enamel. I'm really liking that paint. Finished up with some white sandable primer on the N/C of "Big Yellow" which is what we are calling Jim's old rocket. First flight will hopefully be this weekend on a 4 grain research motor with "Sharon's Sparkler 2" for the propellant.

JUST A FYI TO ALL OF YOU WE DO HAVE SOMEONE WHOM IS INTERESTED IN BUY A READY TO FLY ROCKET WHICH CAN SUPPORT LARGE ENGINES.... JUST A SHOUT OUT TO THOSE WHOM MAY WANT TO MAKE SOME MULLAH OFF THEIR WORK

I assume you are trying to imply Moolah as in money, not Mullah as in Muslim religous leader...[emoji3]

I have plenty of built rockets that can take “large motors” (up to N motors) I am also always looking for some moolah.

PM me if interested

Moo who hahahaha

Back out of retirement! More to follow. I can say build wise I am impressed with GLR magnatube.

Got a third carbon airframe made, I’m quite happy with how this one turned out and was considerably less stressed than when making the first 2 (first one didn’t cure, whoops) Also started to finish of the other tube (second image) Hopefully I’ll start to make these look like a rocket soon!

What are you using to lay the carbon fiber over to make a tube? How are you keeping the epoxy from sticking to it?

It’s a full length coupler (manufactured by PML) and I have wrapped it in baking paper, just used scotch to stick it down (search up Jarvis Illustrated guide to carbon or something like that if you want to learn more). If you can find it easily Mylar should give you a better finish on the inside but that didn’t bother me enough.

Last night I was able to work on some motor mounts that will be interchangeable in some mid powered rockets. I also was able to tack some fins on my Mega Magg. I am heading to Apogee this morning to pick up my new 4” kits. I have a Zephyr and Peregrine that I had ordered. I live fairly close so I don’t need to have them shop anything. I work tonight and tomorrow so I’m trying to use my time wisely!

WONDER WHAT... sorry my caps lock was on ... wonder what rpedro is going to do with the rockets?

Like I said im just giving out the the basic info for this guy thread. The main goal for him is to buy already made rockets with large engines for a price suitable for him... so if you want to make a bid go to this thread : Wanted Built rtf rockets wanted!!!

Yes. I saw the thread. If you look at the poster, he doesn't have much history on the forum, but it looks like he's been trying to buy "fully built rockets" going back to 2013. I am wondering in general (not to you in particular) what he is doing with the rockets. I am wondering, also, if anybody has completed a transaction with this person?

I am wondering only idly and without much URGENCY. Sort of vaguely curious about an unusual post.

if he has a proper NAR TRA clearance to to shoot those larger rockets he's all good unless he doesn't have it and is trying to spindle people out of a motor illegally

Weather and work are making us scale back another launch this weekend. Today I built two research motors, both using Sharons new sparkler formula. First was an L857 in a Kosden 54/2550 case, and the second was an L942 in an Ellis Mountain 76/5000 case. We will fly these Saturday if the weather holds as predicted. Thursday and Friday don't look good, rainy and cold.

Laid internal fillets for my loc vulcanite - first time building fun can externally. Got a start on the fillets on my mach1 desdemona

I got my third Apogee Aspire kit. I'm just waiting on AT for the new G8st-p motor. I plan to use a custom deployment system and that motor to achieve over 9000 feet! I have some of that orange smoke so I might actually be able to find it!

Yes, building them externally can be fun. (Or so I hear. Haven't done it.)

Just hope no one is flying an Othello at the same launch. That could get ugly.

External fillets on the Alpha LIV.
Opened one of the two Interceptor kits I got yesterday and assembled the motor mount. Straightened out the front of the motor hook before gluing, and skipped the 'engine block'. (Why have both a motor hook AND an engine block??? If you're using standard 18 mm motors the motor hook is quite enough to stop any forward motion of the motor.) Anyway, I'll be able to insert longer motors from Green Monkey Aerospace. I got one of his last 18mm research motor kits. Now I have 2.75", 3.75", 5.75, and 7.75" cases, forward closures, and itty-bitty nozzles!

(Why have both a motor hook AND an engine block???
For standard engine hook installations, the engine block is to stop the front end of the motor hook from putting all the forward thrust pressure from the engine on one small spot, possibly damaging the motor tube. The block spreads the thrust over a wider area, i.e. the diameter of the tube. But if you are straightening the front end of the hook to allow for longer engines, how are you securing the hook to the motor tube? Seems like rear tape wrap or a screw on retainer would be easier.
