And yet... things like "vaping" are accepted and done by the masses... then they come out months later and say it's bad for your health.

Was anybody surprised by that?

Logic and Proportion... have fallen sloppy dead.

When logic and proportion have fallen sloppy dead
And the white knight is talking backwards
And the red queen's off with her head
Remember what the label said
Feed your head, End Up Dead!

I...But is airborne crystalline silica actually legitimately a cause for cancer if you breathe it? Is wood dust a cause of cancer if you inhale it? ...

I don't have the article in front of me, but airborne silica has been shown to be cancerous. It deposits in lungs, much like asbestos.

Years ago (one of) the chemical used to pressure treat wood was arsenic, along with chromium I think. I learned this in 2006 when working on a large project where we would go through a pallet or two of treated plywood a day, with no respiratory protection...we'll see how that goes later in life. The project ran from 2005 to 2007, but all sources say arsenic and chromium was no longer used after Dec 31 2003. The tags clearly said arsenic.
I don't know what is in Estes kits that is carcinogenic.
Airborne silica dust has long been known to cause silicosis which is usually fatal. Wear respiratory protection when mixing Quikrete.

The problem is when everything has a warning, nothing has a warning. That leads to folks ignoring (for lack of a better term) 'real' warnings and getting hurt.

How many people really read all of the warnings that come in the manuals for different items? It has gotten to the point that there are so many "junk warnings" that all warnings are ignored

Does anything good from California except for some occasional good movies???

I don't know if I would want to live there, but it's a gorgeous state to visit. The coasts, deserts, mountains, forests, etc. are as diverse as one can find across the entire continent yet in one relatively small area. Their 8 national parks (Death Valley, Redwood, Sequoia, Joshua Tree, Channel Islands, Yosemite, Kings Canyon, Pinnacles) and countless other natural areas are "must-see" sorts of places. I've been there at least a dozen times and still feel like I haven't scratched the surface.

There's also the whole thing with "if California was its own country, it would have the fifth largest economy on earth."

There are things to criticize, but they're clearly doing something right.

There are only like that because they have the backing of the USA economy. If they were their own it would drop. Trust me. It is not what it seems.

Uh no...they're literally helping to prop up less prosperous states. California is a net tax donor to the country as a whole, while many other states (deep south especially) are net tax losers. They suck more federal funds than they contribute.

Owning an entire coast helps a lot. Compare vs. US East Coast or EU West or Asia East.

Unsurprisingly in GDP per capita terms US East does quite well as individual states, and if geographically scaled to match Cali would utterly dominate.

Quite a few Californians think being their own country would solve their problems. If there were responsible for their own defense, it would quickly eat up a lot of their budget. I think it would be a huge mistake.

It's so strange how all the places with capital and people make the most wealth in a service economy, while less populous labor oriented segments have fewer operas and University hospitals.

I'm not here to defend California as the superlative example of economic excellence, just to say "hey they're significant enough to warrant some respect."

California would crumble in a certain way. If California broke off and started it's own country the USA would benefit. California would fork it's own constitution. With California's liberal thinking they would sensor free speech, there would be no 1st amendment. They would ban guns. There would be no 2nd amendment. They would ban any free thinking. Sure they would still have silicon valley and such because those people would love banning guns and sensoring free speech. I think people would leave California in droves.

California already has some of the most left-leaning laws in the country, yet it hasn't kept people away. That state is a magnet for people, talent, and business "in spite of" their "liberal" policies.

Personally the biggest thing that would keep me from moving to California is the 55mph speed limit on rural roads.

True what you said but there is enough people who would leave based on them banning guns and then them banning free speech. Plus, they would make it a socialist gov. It would turn into Venezuela.

i am going to warn everyone - this may turn ugly - please avoid the third rail.
