I kinda have to laugh at these boxes.. it's a large box with hollow tubes inside! A lot of volume for little actual material.

Although the kits are cool, the box art is also pretty cool too!!

Okay, the tubular nylon shock cord connects to the eye bolt on the top centering ring and the other end to the nose cone and parachute. Won't the tubular nylon shock cord get singed by the ejection charge? I have a nomex blanket to wrap my chute, but what about protecting the shock cord?

Yes, and that is why I always use a short section of Kevlar (1000-2000 LBF) from the eye bolt to just above the top of the body tube. In addition, I add a small (~3") piece of material on that Kevlar at the top (near the BT edge) for wear protection.

Just wondering how much nose weight was added for your LOC Goblin? Based on my RockSim model, I'm finding ~200g works for 38mm and 1-2 grain 54mm motors.

I flew mine on a I245G using the LOC 38mm adapter with no nose weight. Then the LOC boys and I aired them out at Bong last weekend. I flew mine on a K456DM, and the LOC boys upped me a little by using a K535W DMS. Mine went to 3956', and the LOC boys got ~4100' ish. No epoxy in my rocket at all. I did shake the external fillets loose. It pulled almost 24 G's. I'm gonna pull them off and use TB III this time... I think the Mould and Trim didn't soak in good enough.

The Cletus fins are not quite to scale as the Goblin. But Thank You for fueling my ADD/OCD problem and now we may just have to re-brand the Big-C. Should we give it the same treatment we did to the 4"? 75/54/38 mm adaptor rings and loc-n-rings? We're all ears over here!!! LOL

I know, I know, old thread, but yeah. Fill the gap between the 4" and the 7" with a Goblinized Big Cletus.

I second that. A Goblin in 5.54" would be sweet. The 7.5 is too far out of my wheelhouse, at the moment, but a 5.5 would be doable. That being said, I'm eyeing the 7.5" Door Knob with interest. Good range of motor usage.

And then the rocket died...
I was sad. It was my go to flier. The chute didn't open. The JL CR was open at the scene of the crime, but the chute was still folded up. It broke right above the motor case. I used the HUGE AT54/426 case...:rolleyes: I've flow the exact same combination before. Just that this time things went a little, well, off...
Oh well. Time to build a new one with the correct markings...:D

I feel your pain...

Might be able to salvage the fin can and just replace the tube. Slip a 38mm mount inside the old 54 use a 4" to 38mm centering ring above into the new tube.

Nah, I'm gonna start fresh. This rocket was fun on 54 motors... However... the fin unit might just live on as the basis for a Wocket-ish thingy...:p:eek:

Sigh...
I saw you carrying that back from the field. It was a sad sad thing to bear witness to :(

Mine is nearly complete, just lacking the rail guides. Went together nicely, I blew it by not painting one fin completely black. Also, my epoxy filets were built strong, but were rough in appearance. I tried smoothing things out with some Elmers Wood Filler, but that bucket was probably old and it never quite worked the way I was hoping. Well, if you don't get too close then it looks pretty good! Yellow gloss enamel followed by clear enamel finished up the paint job. This was my first LOC kit, followed by a low powered Xeno . . . I'm very impressed by LOC quality - even the small/inexpensive kits a step above. Very nice. I'm constructing a custom electronics sled to fit into the Goblins nose cone for my Altimeter 2.

A question for those who have flown theirs: What is the lowest altitude/motor that you were/are comfortable flying this rocket with? I'd like to keep it below 500 ft for the first flight or three . . .

I've also noticed mixed results with the JLCR . . . perhaps I should I practice with it on my soon to be completed LOC HyperLoc 163?

Mark!

I just primered mine tonight. Such a cool looking rocket. I'm thinking lime green with the obligatory black fin.

Nice. Since I screwed up originally and painted the cone yellow, and the replacement parts won't include a new cone, I decided to do a reverse paint scheme.
The rocket will be black with a yellow band and one yellow fin. And a yellow cone, of course...
